Anyone recognise this location?

From a Class 33 Facebook group.

We've managed to identify the loco, 33034, but not the location.

We think it's probably not the Cardiff-Pompey route as the Southern drivers would usually wind up the correct 89 on the headcode.

Someone thought it might be The Marches, but I'm thinking the junction to the left of the rear of the train has a colour light signal and most of the Marches were semaphores.

Anyone help?

Fairwood Junction, Westbury? See google street view: https://goo.gl/maps/YAfTk7iWdSG2

Which might make it a rare FO Plymouth-Paddington from 1984, mentioned in other threads... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/93633-class-33s-plymouth-to-paddington/

And which would also account for the white blanks.

Thank you eastwestdivide, you've nailed it.

I thought the Ply-Padd would be a larger load than that, but the photos on the other thread show it with load 5 too.

Yes, that Fridays Only train was effectively a relief, and booked for only a short rake.

Wondering about Shelwick Junction where the Worcester line diverges just north of Hereford

Very few photos of the location on line though....

Phil

Definitely not Shelwick Jcn Phil - there is no suitable viewpoint to give that angle.

Fairly certain that it is Fairwood Jcn - the angle of view is just right for the overbridge that appears in the Google Maps link.

Per the Summer 1984 carriage workings, the 1610 (FO) Plymouth Paddington was formed of the stock that had worked the 0635 (FO) from Bristol, Circuit CF 162. Dual heated vacuum braked listed as SK, CK, BSK, 2 SK. Apart from being back to front, this matches the stock in the image.
