MERG@50 Special Feature for MERG Members at the Exhibition.

merg-50.jpg

We are pleased to announce that our exhibition will host the first event of the year celebrating the 50th anniversary of MERG, the Model Electronic Railway Group.

The Leamington & Warwick Model Railway Society host regular meetings of the Warwickshire / North Oxfordshire (WNO) Area Group of MERG at our club rooms.

On Saturday morning, there will be a special meeting of the Warwickshire and North Oxfordshire MERG Area Group featuring presentations by Martin Perry and Howard Watkins. During an informal buffet lunch for members, there will be a "Meet the Committee" session to allow all members to discuss any MERG related issues with the six members of the Committee who will be present.

All current MERG members are invited to attend the exhibition and then join this special MERG@50 celebration year feature.

We may have to limit the number of places available at the seminar sessions and consequently if you are planning to attend you should apply for a ticket which will give the organisers an indication of the number of MERG members who will be attending. Your ticket will be exchanged for a pass to the seminar rooms on arrival at the exhibition.

Please book your place before the 27th February 2017 via the MERG@50 event page on the Eventbrite ticketing website using this link

Please also note that this ticket will not give access to the exhibition and there is no access to the seminar rooms without first entering the exhibition. Tickets for the exhibition will be available on the door at £7 per person.  MERG members wanting to visit the show on Saturday and Sunday will be able to purchase a special two day ticket for £10 on arrival at the exhibition.

If travelling to the exhibition by car please be aware that part of the car park on the college site is affected by building work. We have an overflow car park available using the Warwick District Council Riverside House office car park. A shuttle bus will operate between the overflow car park and the exhibition centre it we find it necessary to open the overflow car park.

Further details can be found at http://lwmrs.co.uk/CMS/index.php/exhibition-access/2017-exhibition-car-parking

Hawthorn Dene (note spelling) is up and running, just a few more locos to service.

Come and say hello.  Mr Simon is also present on the operating team.

Les

Les,

Apologies for the spelling mistake - now corrected on RMWeb. Looking forward to seeing the layout again at the weekend.

Much Murkle has been taken out of its winter hibernation to make sure everything is hunky dory for its first outing of a busy 2017 this coming weekend.

Despite being stored in a cold garage I'm always surprised at how well everything holds together during the winter period. No problems found other than a few spiders webs. A test run went well even without cleaning the track  :imsohappy:

That leaves me the rest of this week to try and get my new Hattons 48xx ready for its debut appearance. Weathering, coal, crew, lamps, DG couplings etc to be added.

Looking forward to the weekend and hope to meet a few RMwebbers at the show.

I can't seem to get past the first page of layout descriptions at http://lwmrs.co.uk/CMS/index.php/exhibition-contents/2017-exhibition-layouts , and it would be nice to know what is there. Or is it just me?

It wan't just you 298, and the problem has now been resolved. You should now find details of 25 layouts, and pictures and diagrams of some will be loaded later.

Looking a great line up again. Hopefully I'll get chance to see some of it, last year time flew and I didn't get a lot of time for layout watching (don't read that as a complaint or that it was a bad show in anyway, it was excellent).

Looking forward to it.  Might catch the train in and the shuttle bus from the overflow.  Visited Leamington a month ago and the council have closed much of the multi-storey car park so parking is very tight in the town centre on a Saturday.  Presumably users of the overflow will be interrogated "name a major producer of OO model railways other than Hornby" before being admitted to the overflow.

Leamington, is a delightful shopping town.  I would strongly advise against leaving other halves at the overflow so they can explore the shops.  Paying their admission fee will be money well saved.

There will be a security guard at the entrance to the overflow car park and hence they will be able to discourage casual users. The overflow car park will close at 6pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday and be locked. Access will then only be possible by emergency call out of a security patrol and a release fee will be incurred.

We have recently learnt that the British Heart Foundation have changed the weekend of the Warwick Half Marathon this year and it will now take place on Sunday 5th March 2017.

Consequently there will be a number of road closures that will affect visitors travelling from the Stratford direction or down the M40 from Birmingham on Sunday morning who were planning to drive through Warwick.

The race route map can be found here on the BHF website. It starts at Warwick Racecourse proceeds to St Johns (which is on the direct route from the motorway to the exhibition centre) and then proceeds out of town towards Coventry on the north side of Warwick. Road closures commence at 8am around the race course and 8:30 in most parts of Warwick town centre. Full details of the road closures can be found here. There is likely to be traffic congestion in the centre of town as drivers look for parking because at this time of year there is no parking available on the grass at the race course.

We recommend avoiding the centre of Warwick completely on Sunday morning.

Travelling Southbound on M40

If on the M40 do not leave the motorway at junction 15 (Longbridge), if coming from Stratford or Wellesbourne, at the motorway roundabout ignore the Warwick exit and enter the motorway southbound carriageway to cross the river, just a few hundred meters. Immediately leave the motorway at the next exit junction 14 the A452. At the end of straight link road take the second exit off the roundabout towards Leamington Spa onto Europa Way.

Continue using the shared instructions below.

Travelling Northbound on M40

Turn off at the first junction signed for Warwick & Leamington-Spa - Junction 13. At the to of the slip road turn right at the T junction onto the A452. At the roundabout take the third exit off the roundabout towards Leamington Spa onto Europa Way.

Continue using the shared instructions below

Both routes from M40

Go straight over the first roundabout, (BRW & Volvo dealers on the right), at the next roundabout take first exit effectively straight on, shortly go straight across the next roundabout (2nd exit). Go under the railway bridge and at the traffic lights go straight ahead onto Princes Drive. The railway should be on your right hand side. At the T junction mini roundabout, turn right, the college is on the right so at the traffic island fork right to the car park entrance.

I was planning to go on Sunday. I think it's best to stay away, I've been caught up in marathons before. I'll try to go on Saturday but I'm not sure about family arrangements.

Pity, it's a good show.

PenrithBeacon,

If you're coming up the M40 from the south, as your location suggests, you should be absolutely fine. The Half-marathon runs through the centre, north and west of Warwick, while the exhibition is in Leamington Spa, which is to the east of Warwick.

If you come off the M40 at junction 13, and follow the A452 up into Leamington Spa, you will stay well away from the Marathon, and its traffic, which is being guided by the BHF to use Junction 15.

Thanks for that, appreciated. Be there on Sunday, unless some bright spark decides the grandchildren are coming for tea on Sunday. Then it might change.
