Zen
I have been looking at an O Gauge signal box kit, However it is laser cut ply. Has anyone had any experiences of such kits and what about the results of painting such kits??? Bit apprehensive about new product myself.

Jeff Smith
I have built several US O scale building kits. They are generally very accurately cut with minimal finishing to get a good fit (emery boards are ideal for this). Instructions say to use solvent based paints to minimize warping but I use acrylics exclusively so have found that painting both sides also minimizes warping. I have added additional internal bracing in some buildings to keep walls from bowing. I use PVA but wipe any excess off finished surfaces with a damp cloth to prevent shiny areas which can be quite noticeable when painted or stained. hartleymartin
I have used Zap-A-Gap Medium CA. Apparently this glue was developed for use with wood. You may find some sort of spray primer/sealer. I have previously used Tamiya spray primers with good results. The grey and pink primers give better coverage on wood. The red-oxide primer goes on a bit thick.
