AMJ
Just seen a planned idea for an early Sunday morning treat. 23/4/2017. On the quadruple section north of York the main line will be closed to enable the four trains to run together. This was announced at the Y17 visit Yorkshire event in York today. It is planned for there to be a historical lineup with a 91, HST, steam and a Montezuma. Not found anything online yet.

RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted March 21, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 21, 2017 No Deltic in the line up? Pah! Phil
DavidBird
No Deltic in the line up? Pah! Phil Nearly... Not forgetting the diesel heritage of the area – Flying Scotsman will be hauled into its place in the historic line up by a Class 55 Deltic
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted March 21, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 21, 2017 Nearly... Did see that David....relegated to a bit part? Phil
Zomboid
Sadly only the 4 tracks, so something has to give.
'CHARD
Sadly only the 4 tracks, so something has to give. Problem with the East Coast front line traction is that it's always been seen as a stop-gap. Deltics and HSTs were a short term measure pending electrification, but then proved to be world-beaters. If anything, it's the grey porridge IC225s that should be ignored!
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted March 22, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 22, 2017 Did see that David....relegated to a bit part? Phil But a rather important one as it seems its likely role will be to get the money pit to Tollerton.
jamesg
Only spotted it on The Railway Herald site this morning. The formation will run at 20-25mph for 'several miles'. With all the shunting to get the locomotives in place, then the run itself, I wonder how much disruption there will be to regular services, even on a Sunday. That said, I can't wait to see it, no doubt all over the national television news.
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted March 22, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 22, 2017 Yet again, the real railway is compromised for a heritage event. To me, that is not sending out the right message to the public. Surely would have been far better to have it as an Edinburgh - London relay. 4472 to Newcastle, Deltic to York, HST to Doncaster, 225 to Peterborough, 800 to Kings Cross. Zomboid
Except the line is blocked at Thirsk that day anyway. So there will be plenty of disruption, but it won't be anything to do with this.
RMweb Premium Steven B Posted March 22, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 22, 2017 There's only four tracks so surely it makes sense for Virgin to use what it's already got rather than borrowing half of the national collection! If you include a Deltic then surely you should also include an A4, a Stirling Single and all the other pre-grouping locos that powered the ECML expresses. Happy modelling. Steven B. Is the line dual signalled, if so, it would not have been technically correct to call it a blockage, just normal operation, albeit only made possible with some timetable tinkering. Putting aside the fact that much of the early stuff will have been scrapped, you'd probably need at the very least the eastern approach to London Bridge to get anywhere near having enough space for everything that deserves to be included.
