How about following the route of a titled train, both old and modern photos accepted? We could start with an easy one, say 'The Flying Scotsman'.

Or if it's easier a sleeper train?

And here's the Lowland sleeper ready to depart Euston, December 2016.

And the next photo will have the Caledonian sleeper somewhere between here and Crewe.

Already used my pic of the sleeper at Stafford earlier in this thread, so here is one at Wembley but on the mainline.

The route of a titled train is interesting, but might limit things a little, I'm really enjoying the intercontinental variation that the alphabet challenges give. How about train operating company names - long and common short versions accepted. So could have Arriva Trains Wales, British Rail etc. and subdivisions like Network SouthEast

Starting with an A

How about something with three consecutive identical numbers next - for example 555 or 43332.

Cheers,

Mick

What happened to doing the alphabetic train operating companies? Cal.n broke the line lol. Here's a NZ Ja Class loco with 3 consecutive numbers as per Phils request.

Now to get us back onto the alphabet TOC's, H will be next.
