RMweb Gold Popular Post StuAllen Posted August 25, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 25, 2023 (edited) I had the day off work today, so planned a rail trip on local lines that I hadn't travelled on before using a Southern DaySaver ticket - Bargain at £23! So I started at my home station - Wivelsfield. A few trains went past, while waiting for my train to Hampden Park. Here's the one I caught Made it Hampden Park on time to catch my next train to Rye My train to Rye - yes I know its a DMU but I couldn't leave it out, and I do have more pictures of EMU's. Rye station where I had lunch and waited for the DMU to come back from Ashford International. I did manage to see some South Eastern EMU as we went through Hastings I caught the DMU Back to Eastbourne but only had a few minutes to catch my train to Brighton. Only one photo there - bit of and odd Livery a lost Gatwick Express... Brighton was busy, lots of revenue agents and BTP with sniffer dogs. But lots of EMUs My next train coming in on the right Next stop Ford Where my plan started to unravel thanks to a UXB So got on the next train back to Three Bridges And back home to Wivelsfield First time using Flickr so hope the links work! RMweb Premium Welly Posted August 26, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 26, 2023 ^ I love that one of the busiest junctions in the South has a bucolic and sleepy sounding name of "Stoats Nest"! 1
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted August 26, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 26, 2023 The "Unexploded Wartime Bomb" turned out to be a hand grenade apparently, and a old dummy army training one at that. Meanwhile, I was one of three Southern 377's that wound up being stranded in Portsmouth & Southsea Lower Level: 301 was on the blocks having just been stopped from leaving on the all sheds to Littlehampton, I was supposed to be going back up to Horsham with 435 then 442 (note the missing First Class yellow stripe from its three car 377342 days) turned up, turned back off a Southampton to Brighton at Havant. Two more were parked in the middle platform at Fareham.
RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted August 26, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 26, 2023 That's where it is! I've been keeping an eye out for the illusive 377442 as it is the last 377/4 I do not have a decent photo of although I do have one from its 377/3 days). It seems to have kept itself mainly to the London suburban areas recently, I sometimes catch a quick glace of it on my commute.
Peter Kazmierczak
Stoats Nest is quiet as a London Bridge to Tattenham Corner train ambles along between Reedham and Coulsdon Town.
Peter Kazmierczak
This is more like it at Stoats Nest; up and down Thameslink services, plus a bonus freight.

RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted August 26, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 26, 2023 Funnily enough, just after I posted my comment I saw it leaving Pulborough. The hastily grabbed photo was blurred however! 🤬
RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted August 26, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2023 (edited) A quick grab shot or two as I was passing Seaford station. Match day 4+4 combo. Brighton went down 1-3 to West Ham. Edit - photo wrongly captioned as a 9 car train. Apologies! You are of course quite right. The caption has been amended and uploaded. Thanks for pointing out my error. The join between the units was in the least visible location, but it was still a daft mistake. 1

I noted 377/4 plus 377/7 the other day on a a Sutton - Victoria working which is the only time I have ever seen a five-car unit in multiple with anything shorter on a service run. About once a year I see a five-car unit formed in a mix of units which has so far always been on a Selhurst Depot - Victoria ecs move. Equally rare is the coupling of green 377 and red 387 units which cannot be done in traffic because their door systems don’t play nicely with each other. A 377+387 combination appeared a couple of weeks back on a Selhurst - Stewarts Lane ecs working. 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post Claude_Dreyfus Posted September 16, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 16, 2023 Had a day out to visit the Isle of Wight - although to be honest the main purposes was to have a play with the hovercrafts... It was the first time I had been there since the upgrade of the railway, so took the opportunity to get a few pictures of the indigenous rolling stock. 484004 was doing the honours along with 484002, which I did not get a picture of. The hovercraft was definitely the highlight of the trip. It is the first time I have ever travelled on one - I have seen them on a regualr basis on my travels to the island. Back at Portsmouth I managed to grab a couple of snaps of some Desiros. 444045 passes Gunwharf Keys on the approach to the Harbour. 450049 and 444045 rest at the stops.
