LNER Toad E buffers

Hi gents,

Fairly simple question, which buffers from Lanarkshire Model Supplies would be best for a fitted LNER Toad E, running circa 1960?

Example of the model being built.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Nick

If you look on Dave's website it gives examples of use on each buffer pack supplied.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply. I have looked, but can't work it out.

I thought they might be B003, but I'm not sure.

Regards,

Nick

Maintenance must have seem them changed quite a bit.

Some had 16" buffers some had 18"

Some had four rib, some had two.

Some had  pre-fabricated, some had cast.

Early (Wooden ducket) had spindle with round base, late could have any of the above.

Not much help I'm afraid but  with this prototype it really is a matter of find a picture in your given time frame if you are bothered about accuracy.

Here's a few links.

Hi Brinkly, on most of the photos I've seen of these vans in service they had 1'81/2'' buffers with 13'' heads and extra long 3 link couplings or screw couplings. This is also confirmed by the drawings and photos in Tatlow's book on LNER wagons. Suitable buffers are our B004 for the four rib type and B019 with two ribs, a GWR type which was very similar to the common LNER one. It has been discussed before about the GWR ones featured on the model gwrrob linked to as they look far too long 2'0''??? and seem to be old coach buffers.

This question crops up with some regularity both on forums and by email to Lanarkshire Models and the two types mentioned have been satisfactorily supplied.

Yes, of-course buffers got changed in later years and some vans in the engineers department ended up with odd types of buffer which weren't around when the vans were built.

Hope that helps,

Dave.

Have you noticed Mr Tatlow did "an Airfix" on the roof of the Toad D.

I suppose we've always got "the official" to fall back on.  (Forgot I had this.)
