R2339 Mallard, LNER, No.4468

R2340 Golden Plover, BR, No.60031

They still look good too!     :)  All with double chimneys....

Hi can anyone tell me when Hornby upgraded the A4 to super detail

Just a small cautionary note: I think the 'super detail' tag is associated with the last half dozen years of Margate design and production, late 1990s, early 2000's. These were dated tender drive locos in the case of the A3 and A4 pacifics, superficially tarted up with some improved detailing.

The subsequent 2004 and onward Gresley pacific loco drive introductions, completely newly tooled and manufactured in China are in a different class, a significant advance over the 'super detail' product in most respects.

That's great stuff many thanks I'm looking at the Northumberland set with the Early crest A4 in it set R2435

Here's a review by Jenny E Kirk who is an RM WEB Member.

I bought one after seeing this and am really quite happy with it.

There's a coach extension pack available too.
