Indomitable026
Now I'm trying to work out what the detachable fascia will look like. It will be a box section frame. It sits a little higher than track level to allow for board level LED uplighters. I've no idea if the lighting idea will work.
Indomitable026
I've cut the horizontal member narrower (by the thickness of the ply) so when its butted up to the vertical we have the same dimension. I think this should work
Indomitable026
I've snatched a bit of time today, so assembly of the dismountable fascia has commenced. (once I'd sorted my glue brush which had gone solid). This is the top of the lower part of the frame being glued to a batten.
Indomitable026
Here's the frame bottom front going on. and the start of the lefthand upright. The rugby beckons me thinks...

Indomitable026
This is great: stop-motion watching the glue dry! Well you better hold on to your seat - there's more to come. You'll get to see paint drying later on...
Indomitable026
A little more progress today, only at the speed of the glue drying - of course.

Indomitable026
I've managed to get some paint on the board. Now we can watch the paint dry, judging by the temperature we could be here a while...

I can still see the stain on the floor from when the can got knocked over on a previous build - was it DitD or BCB?

Indomitable026
I've turned the board over now, and given the top a two light washes of paint, thinned down with thinners. The reason for this is I wanted to colour the board but also have the track plan come through I'd previously penned on. Now I stink.

Portchullin Tatty
I have painted the underside of my boards white, so that it does not absorb light. Helpful if you ever find you have to do something upside down at an exhibition - which seems to happen to me from time to time!

Indomitable026
From previous experience Grey is his favourite colour, changing to white would be a major change and require a debate Yep. My favourite song is; Bruce Hornsby - Fields of Gray... (I painted the BCB boards a mushroom colour...) (and the boards I built for the SRC project were white - what became white acres...) Other than that all grey. Apart from the boards for 'Diesels in the Duchy' they were a mushroom colour. And the boards for Old Gringo's 'Once upon a time in the west', well, they were a sand colour.. Indomitable026
I've had a major sort out this morning, which has involved taking the 'Bratton Flemming' boards out of the railway room. This leaves just the main boards for 'Diesels in the Duchy' up against the wall and the new build Highland Sulzers, a lot more workable, meaning I can now get all the way around it!
Indomitable026
The main board for Highland Sulzers has spent the week in the garage drying from its recent paint. On it's way back up in to the railway room I thought it would be prudent to check for fit in the truck. For the first time ever it looks like I have a layout that I can take to a show in just my own vehicle! (although its not all built yet...)
Indomitable026
Next job legs. I'm looking to have 'L' shape fold out legs in opposing corners. This should provide the lateral bracing required.
