JonahJ
Hi , Does anyone have any pictures of Winsford train station on Station Road back in the 50's please
RMweb Premium dhjgreen Posted December 13, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) You are more likely to get a response on here if you ask for pictures of the railway station! Edit, also the new members area is not the best location to post your question. I would suggest you try again in the prototype area follow the link to find it. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/forum/72-uk-prototype-questions/ Edited December 13, 2017 by dhjgreen

RMweb Premium Kylestrome Posted December 14, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 14, 2017 (edited) "Train Station"........That most reviled of phrases ! I tend to agree, which shows we're probably from the same generation, but it should be realised that there are many younger people here who have possibly only heard them being referred to as 'train stations'. Then surely it is our duty to educate those youngsters ?

Hroth
You'll have to search through the volume indexes as I can't remember WHEN it appeared, but Railway Bylines had an article on Winsfords branch line termini with photos and maps. And yes, it's RAILWAY STATIONS!
Fat Controller
I thought the OP asked about 'Winsford', which is on the WCML, north of Crewe?
RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 17, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2017 (edited) Fat controller: The ‘Winsford’ station on the wcml is actually in Wharton rather than Winsford itself but as mentioned there used to be a branch line into the town centre but off the ‘Cheshire lines’ just after cuddington station (I think it’s now a public footpath for most of its length) but a quick google map check shows it’s not near a ‘station road’ at all but the current wcml station is so from what I can make out the OP would like to see pics of the current station in the 50s maybe? Edit: a quick look at disused railways reveals a 3rd station at over and Wharton too http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/o/over_and_wharton/ Must admit I never knew about that one Edited December 17, 2017 by big jim
Poggy1165
Over and Wharton was a branch line off the LNWR. A double track one IIRC. There was a track plan in the Railway Modeller many moons ago. There don't seem to be many photos of the present WInsford Station on the net, bar those in its modernised form. The LNWR Society might be able to help.

I recollect Over and Wharton having sidings full of wooden-bodied opens carrying salt for road-gritting.
