Anyway...

Would you like some photos of small tank engines, a 2-2-2 and some vintage coaches after I go to see some on Sunday?

Even if I don't use them I'm open to it, even just as discussion points. I always love photos of small tank engines. So sure, fire away!

Mornin' Red,

The sun is shining, the Swifts are screaming about over my house and the bees appear to be making a comeback. The world ain't too bad at the moment!

I'll be off down to Chorlton in a mo and I'll get that tender in the post.

                                            Chris.

Ah, the dry heat and desert climes of Manchester; I thought I recognised that stand of palm trees!

I remember once when sun stopped play at Old Trafford.

Enjoy it while it lasts!

Phew! Bit of a haul!
This... frankly daunting load of items was, as anyone new to this thread can probably tell from the past few posts, sent to me by my good friend sem34090. And there's a lot of it.
post-33750-0-52535400-1526040014_thumb.jpg

  1. A Hornby LMS 4P 2-6-4T (which will soon be turned into KLR No.8 Eastern Rambler)
  2. 2 Triang LMS third coaches
  3. A Triang blood and custard brake coach, allowing me to make the blood and custards featured earlier on this thread into a complete set
  4. A Hornby brakedown crane
  5. 2 chassis-less DMUs, one just the body shell and glazing
  6. Seats for the shell DMU
  7. A rather battered Lima four-wheel coach with no wheels, glazing or roof
  8. A Hornby shunter's truck
  9. 5 Triang 6-plank wagons
  10. 2 Triang livestock vans
  11. A Triang United Dairies tanker wagon
  12. A Triang ore hopper
  13. A pair of coal wagon loads
  14. A Triang LMS Princess 4-6-0, complete with (repainted) tender
  15. Another chassis for said tender
  16. 2 LNER A3 cabs from two different makers
  17. An LNER A1 cab - maker forgotten
  18. A cylinder block from something
  19. A broken body shell for a... Triang I think? BR Standard 3MT 2-6-4T
  20. And a motorless, coupling rod-less Triang Jinty chassis

Jeez, that's a lot of stuff! Thanks very, VERY much sem!

Also got this today from Sandhole:

Sorry if that was a bit of a shock!!

The loco was part built when I got it, the builder hadn't started on the tender.

At least you can put the body on a lighter chassis.

Nah it's fine. Not your fault. I can live with it, especially as I now have a chassis for it courtesy of sem's goodie box.

Speaking of which...

"Coming up onto the catwalk now is Wanderer sporting this beautiful blood and custard set by Alchemist Studios..."

Catwalk? Formica worktop. Whatever. As usual with the kitchen worktop photos it's because the set is far too long for the workbench. Hell, it's almost too long for the worktop!

Decided to start working through the box slowly starting with the simplest item first. So, now I have this nice complete blood and custard set after refurbing the brake coach sem supplied.

post-33750-0-36416900-1526048626_thumb.jpg

Repaint the roof to match the others, silver buffers, some gold on the "GUARD" lettering and done. Simple, but effective. Had to choose Wanderer as it's the most likely tank engine to pull these and all the tender engines would have fallen off the end of the worktop and down the side of the oven as they're too long. Not that I mind, I'm proud of Wanderer. I think it looks very smart.

And as if today couldn't get any more interesting, look what I found had arrived in my shed ten minutes ago?

Aah, feels nice to finally give Bulldog his name officially.

(Using male pronouns for Bulldog as he's male in the stories I've written. See the Pre-Grouping Literary Page. I will do the same for the other locomotives - male for BulldogWild Rover, Peter, Geoffrey Lake, Wanderer, Edward Bradleigh I; female for Mastodon, GremlinEastern Rambler so far.)

Eastern Rambler has now taken shape. Chimney and dome are from a Triang Jinty, the front spectacle plate is from the cab of the K3 that became Edward Bradleigh I, and the rear one is from one of those Hornby Class D starter tanks.

Blimey! You work quick!

Are you ditching the smokebox doorplate? If so, which 4P became KLR property?

Thanks! I have a lot of free time so I can just get on with things.

And yes I will be removing the numbers. I'm working on its backstory as we speak.

Also surprised me how well the LNER spectacle plate windows fit around the firebox. Looks GOOD.

That is very nice!

Surprising how much a different chimney and dome can alter the look of an engine!

Very impressed with your surgery on the front of the cab, that is very tidy.

The spectacle plate is a subtle change, but as with the others - very effective!

Which cab are you going to use on the princess?

Thinking about it, I should have included an A3 smokebox...

Yeah. It's turned out much better. I'll take a photo from the back in a tick, show you how the rear one looks. Been out all day visiting my dad.

Actually tempted to keep the Princess as is. Always good to have a test engine.
