RMweb Gold Tony Teague Posted March 16, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 16, 2018 I recently acquired a small number of 2nd hand kits via E-Bay, including a Ration 5065 kit for a GWR 12T box van - which builds to dia. V23, V26 and V34. I am not a GWR expert but I want to build this for an inter-regional van train; unfortunately some important parts are missing from the kit (like floor, wheels, solebars etc!) so I have no idea as to the correct wheelbase and / or wheel size for these vehicles. Can a GWR expert assist please, and perhaps suggest sources for the missing bits? (The body is complete excepting the floor which I have already replaced). All help appreciated! Steamport Southport
They sell the chassis as a separate item. http://www.petersspares.com/ratio-560-10ft-wheelbase-gwrrch-wagon-underframe-plastic-kit-oo-gauge.ir 10 foot wheelbase. Some details here in an advert for an O gauge version. https://anticsonline.uk/N2384_GWR-Wagon-Kits/1945282_GWR-12T-Covered-Goods-Wagon-Diag-V23-24-Kit.html Jason
wagonman
Yes, 10 ft wheelbase with Morton brakegear: V23 were vac fitted, V24 were not. Some V23s had screw couplings and longer buffers though most had standard buffers and instanter couplings – unlike the photo of the 0 gauge model. All of them were fitted with OK oil axleboxes. When introduced in 1933 they were probably the first to be fitted with the vertically planked doors, not that that is a detail you can change!
