bazjones1711
Having virtually finished our Crossley scrap layout , our attention has now turned to the possibility of starting the next layout based on the stainless coil unloading sidings at the end of Tinsley yard , which unloaded import coil from the likes of Grimsby dock etc... ironically rolled from stainless slab produced in the SMACC plant opposite ! The plan is to have a single line in with the scenic part of the layout approx 8ft long by 20 " wide with a 5ft fiddle yard , the corrugated building being about 5ft + long . I envisage the baseboards and scenery not taking to long to do , just making the working overhead crane will take a lot of time although i may be able to get most of it laser cut in perspex cheaply! Coils will be made from thin card i acquire from work along with thicker card for the concrete foundations . A simple layout that just unloads lots of coils interesting or boring ? !!! The locos used will mainly be Hornby class 60 of which we have 8 these being ; 60005 Transrail 60007 Loadhaul 60017 EW&S 60026 EW&S 60033 BS blue 60048 EWS 60066 Transrail / coal 60090 Coal Wagons ; Bachmann BAA redone as BZA Bachmann BAA redone as BXA Bachmann BAA redone as BSA Cambrian BBA redone as BSA Cambrian BBA redone as BWA Handbuilt BVA all these wagons operated around the mid 90's , also have some Dapol VTG which will use for export coil , don't know if they operated from there but modellers license, hopefully a start is on the horizon, so if anyone can add any information please post Wagon label for imported coil Edited July 17, 2018 by bazjones1711

bazjones1711
Interesting idea. Is this the place that used to be called Outo Kumpu and is that the crane that can be seen from the Motorway? yes it was Outokumpu before closure , the crane can be seen from the motorway is still there , from google maps , as there is a measuring tool on the maps it will be possible to work out the width etc ..of the crane and buildings another pic off the net the left hand of the layout will be hidden by a motorway bridge , will reuse this one built for our first version of the sidings which was too big and bulky to move , hence a rebuild on two 4 ft boards
bazjones1711
will have to make a few dozen coils for all the wagons and coil stockyard ! made from thin card i get from work , banding is made from leftover sticky labels we also use , recycling at its best
