The KWVR's class 101 looking mint in the winter sunshine last weekend at Damems.

OK, I know that technically this is a 3/4 view, but this is one of my favourite shot's I've taken this year, so thought I'd include it in this little selection as well :)

It might technically be a 3/4 view, but the low angle and shooting into the light really make the shot.  Best entry on the thread for a while, well done.

Thanks for the nice comments :) especially as I had to climb a tree to get the shot. Easy when I was younger, less so as I rocket towards 40. Kind of get now why a lot of photographers invest in poles or drones...

Out for a walk today in Rotherham, checked the timetable, and ooh, what's that?

Video inspection unit running from Derby to Doncaster, converted East Midlands class 153. Gloomy enough weather that the spotlights show up really well.

On a grey and misty December morning - the last one of 2023 - a Northern class 158 heads east along the Calder Valley towards Bradley Wood Junction with a service from Leeds to Huddersfield via Bradford Interchange.

I'm sure it's not a case of 'out of sight, out of mind'; It just hasn't reached the top of the list yet of rolling stock that needs some tlc...

A blast from the past - On 11th June 2016, Northern 144023 leans into the curve at Kirkstall Forge, on the Aire Valley line between Leeds and Skipton, with a service from Heysham Harbour.

Another blast from the past - although it's only nine years ago.

Rather a three-quarters shot, but Cross Country are not seen at Westbury on a daily basis. Though with Bristol West closed this week, there have been diverts via Bath and Westbury everyday. Here the 0805 Edinburgh - Plymouth approaches the station formed of 221131 + 220023.

Some rare sunshine in West Yorkshire on 24th February 2024 and the sheep on Bradley Hall farm are unmoved as a Northern class 158 passes by with a service from Manchester Victoria to Leeds...

... and they're also unimpressed with a TransPennine Express class 802 working a service from Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle, diverted along the Calder Valley due to the closure of the Huddersfield line.

A TransPennine Express Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street service ambles along towards Huddersfield at Colne Bridge on 4th March 2024.  The 802/2 was following a late running Hull to Manchester Piccadilly service which, since the last timetable change, also doubles as the stopping service between Leeds and Huddersfield.

The last pic does say a lot about the railways view of road vehicle operatives ( driver might be a bit strong!) with end to end double barrier protection... a small wonder costs off the top end of the sensible.

To add a bit of background in case you’re unfamiliar with this part of West Yorkshire, the trackside location here is currently receiving a lot of work in connection with the Transpennine Route Upgrade.

It’s not just the occasional Network Rail and its contractors vans that have been accessing the area.  There’s a fair amount of heavy plant too.  So it’s probably not surprising that, hopefully, more robust barriers are in place for now.

The barrier may be there to provide other protection.  It is a physical barrier high enough to (possibly) hide headlights of a road vehicle bouncing along the track towards an oncoming train.  Whilst I can't see the gaps in the wall, the rails are also barriered off so there is effectively a safe walking route between the railway and the access track but protected from both.
