w124bob
I've looked at photos and DVD for a black livered 2251, but can't find anything other than very dirty green or just too dirty to tell! Branchline to Burnham has a brief glimps of a possible, it's seen in the bay at Highbridge as a fireman walks past but I can't read the number even in freeze frame. I've got an option to buy the current Bachmann black 2251 at a reasonable price.
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted September 27, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 27, 2018 How about 2217? https://www.flickr.com/photos/rpmarks/25862418777/in/photolist-cxA74Q-GmcHng-Dob6rq-e1sJor-T961Y8-ejyfFU-FGAtRL-294UBTK-qf8ryC-pNkoQx-g68ssk-pWY1nn-dazici-8vCLD1-6Skoqf-dUPo72-fEyA2-FpnE52-6CdSW1-cWSVmC-cxA13Q-gEqZH5-5DKnUb-barYjM-zSxvg9-oKN7PM-mXday-GKqkAP-DvYSnb-sLSUgV-mecsg2-ayDEKM-5DF6sT Still a might be but looks a better bet than the 32xx which definitely have lined tenders Have you found this thread? http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/128496-2251-with-dean-tender/ Phil

It had been replaced by a homemade version - probably in wood - with small, non-standard numbering. Regards, John Isherwood.
Karhedron
3218 might be a candidate. It looks black in this shot at Glastonbury (although that could just be the dirt ). While this works shot is B&W, it does suggest that the livery was unlined under all that muck.
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted September 27, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 27, 2018 Certainly unlined - but look at the tonal difference between the smokebox and boiler.... Phil 1
w124bob
Having read the other pages on various tender options and other issues on the 2251's I've decided to get a 9F instead! Probably a scruffy Evening Star as it appeared on loan in 1963. I like a weathering challenge. Edited September 28, 2018 by w124bob
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted September 28, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 28, 2018 9fs were crackng locos - and highly thought of on the S&D Will you be doing the final up Pines Express???? Of hang on that was September 62... Phil
w124bob
I've noted Modelmaster do a nice set of name plates, and are about to introduce "Named Train" headbords so..... I would need to supplement my coaching stock fleet as it's more Highbridge than Pines. However I do have a Maunsell 3 set and several typical parcels vans, and Evening Star can get a work out on my local club layout, Dewsbury Midland.

If you get fed up when you have weathered the loco it looks as if you don't have to bother to do much to the tender! pH
The first picture is definitely at Templecombe Upper. The second picture is very interesting: rods off, outside, and apparently still under steam. 1
