That looks really nice Ade, but are the brakes upside down? 1

RMweb Gold GWR57xx Posted February 26, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 26, 2023 But isn’t the side in the photo the other side, with the lug which reverses the direction of rotation? 1
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted February 26, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 26, 2023 I will do a swap around. Wish these instructions had better diagrams .
RMweb Premium Hal Nail Posted February 26, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 26, 2023 Sorry to be a pain but is the Steam heat pipe (thqe lower one) on the inside and not the outside of the buffer beam? On the bright side your builds are always incredibly neat! 1
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted February 27, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2023 Thanks. The instructions left a lot to be desired.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Adrian Stevenson Posted March 5, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 5, 2023 The brake van and meat van now have got the roofs done in white. (Also corrected the brakes on the meat van.) Had an enjoyable trip to GOG show at Kettering yesterday. Picked up some more working drop eye couplings and fitted these this afternoon to the rake of Teaks. Really impressed with these. They give a nice close coupled appearance.

Mike Huxley
Ade, a rivet counters comment here, but why would you need an LMS non common user Meat van to deliver meat to a deep GWR station like Malmsbury? Surely meat was sourced locally and if more was required it would be delivered by a GWR Mica meat van? Nice model, but out of context for a GWR branch terminus in my opinion. RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted March 5, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2023 (edited) Simply like the look of the wagon is the easy answer. Already have a MICA van for prototypical trains. The layout will eventually go out into the garden for some 40 feet. So I will be running some non GWR stock as a bit of variety. Cheers, Ade. RMweb Premium Hal Nail Posted March 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2023 I can't be certain but I'm not sure the LNER had running rights if we are really being picky :)

The securing nuts are not large enough being smaller than the holes in the bufferbeam. So the buffers would simply fall out. Having built one of these myself, (as I'm sure have many others), I feel I should point out that the nuts aren't retained by the buffer beam, but by the buffer housing. I can confirm that the buffers do not fall out, not requiring any mods to the kit. I note though that the roof is a bit warped! Hope you've been able to sort it out... Actually I see from the latest pic that you have! Edited March 11, 2023 by Nickey Line Afterthought...

Having said that Parkside's standard buffers which are (I think) meant to be generic RCH, are a bit clunky compared to, say, Slaters and I usually replace them with something more typical of for each wagon. 1

I think (and I maybe wrong!) that most of Parkside's opens and vans have BR 4-ribbed buffers, which may not always be prototypical; however, this brake van has a representation of self-contained buffers which, as far as I can tell, are a pretty good match for the prototype. Yes agreed - i was looking at the meat wagon and thats the type that come with the GWR wagons and I've usually fettled a bit, if not replaced! This is not, admittedly, a major issue! RMweb Gold Popular Post Adrian Stevenson Posted April 16, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 16, 2023 Having been away in the van to Statfold Barn for a weekend and the Nene Valley Railway for Easter, modelling time has been limited. However I have been doing some work. First off, I have sprayed the LMS Brake Van and the LMS Meat Van in LMS Freight grey and hand painted the chassis’s in black. So today I got the decals in place. The roofs are just plonked in place for the photo as glazing has got to go in the brake van plus weights need adding. I have also got the GWR open wagon sprayed up in grey. I have got a Peco tarpaulin for this one. Another project I have started is scratch building the coal merchants tin shed. This will be divided into three bays, which were conveniently each the width of a sleeper going from a period photo, so that gave me the rough measurement for the size of the building. Constructed from Slaters Plasicard and coffee stirrers. 22

RMweb Gold Popular Post Adrian Stevenson Posted April 29, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 29, 2023 A new arrival at Malmesbury in the form of a Dapol Flying Banana diesel Railcar. Very impressive model. I have the factory sound fitted version. Good range of different sound and light options and the volume is good too. These retail at £408 all in. Which I think is good value for money. No connection just a happy customer. Busy this holiday weekend but I will try and do a video this week to demonstrate the sounds. Cheers, Ade.
