Thanks Andy. I am pleased with what I have got done.

Next weekend we are off to the Battlefield Line as they have got their Beer Festival on plus Caledonian Locomotive 419 is still there, an engine I have not seen before. The kids are house sitting for us so Patch will be spoiled rotten.

Cheers, Ade.

Had the airbrush out again this afternoon to weather the 43xx. For this engine I wanted just a light overall subtle dusting of track dirt and roof dirt to represent a working loco that was looked after.

There is the usual addition of some weathering powders too.

Cheers, Ade.

The decals from Fox arrived and this morning I have added the Southern Railway lettering. Applied as usual on a gloss varnished surface. The areas where the luggage tare and numbers have now been varnished in preparation.

Usual disclaimer applies. Satisfied customer.

Cheers, Ade.

Ade,

I was at my pal, John’s place on Thursday, and he built one of these.  Good looking vehicle, but he says it’s not a good runner, it has a tendency to wander off into the ballast at the slightest provocation.  It’s a case of “a butterfly’s wing” being sufficient!

Do you have the same issue, have you equalised yours, if so, how, and how is it weighted?

cheers

Simon

Hi Simon, it runs fine even without any additional weights.
But I do intend to add some additional lead to it. I had run out, but  I had a stroke of luck and found some at work this week. A lady brought in a WW1 German Pom-Pom round which had been made inert and some unknown person had added some lead bar into the case. So I now have enough to do this and the GWR Horse box.

Cheers, Ade.

Nice work Ade.  It is a very good kit, as Slater's all tend to be.  I did the van in BR maroon and weathered it.  To Simon's point, I have no complaints about the running qualities of mine.  Just reminded myself that I did use sprung axleboxes:

Thanks both,

John built his with equalisation at one end.  It’s not great, because it’s as likely to lift a wheel at the rigid end as it is for the wobbly end to behave itself.  I hope some weight either side of the rigid axle will sort it, as it’s built with the roof glued on, and the axleboxes glued to the W irons…

more generally, I’ve found this problem with Felix Pole 20T coal wagons too.  It seems that long WB wagons might be a bit prone to it.  Probably weight distribution, or simply a lack of weight.

cheers

Simon

Still playing around taking photos. I had a couple of free back scenes out of RM. So I have just blu tacked them up to take a couple of pics. Really makes me want to sort out the back scenes now as it does transform a pic not seeing the cabin wall.4E3A3EE5-C9C7-402A-A8AB-E9C4A053A1C2.jpeg.af451dd6e41491742a8c3cd5236482f5.jpegBEDF65A3-C988-4DCC-8F4C-873E5A4A86BB.jpeg.814b1d7b319ddfa47b5db4216e84be3d.jpeg

Been a busy few weeks. Had our usual two weeks summer holiday in Egypt. Then a trip to Guildex. Last weekend saw us back at Statfold Barn  railway. There are photos and videos of that in the preservation forum. Today I visited Tower Models in Blackpool. Well worth a visit. Put in a pre order on the Dapol Railcar while I was there. But it looks like Xmas now before the sound fitted ones will be in stock. Not wishing to leave empty handed I bought a kit.
Cheers, Ade.

All looking good Ade. You are motoring now. Hope you enjoyed catching CR419 earlier in the summer.

I have a fondness for that loco because at the tender age of 13, in 1975, it was the first engine I ever worked on on my first visit to the SRPS. It was dark blue then, it is a much lighter shade now.

Cheers
