TEAMYAKIMA
I am planning a weekend away in Warrington for a party of model railway enthusiasts sometime (anytime) in 2019 coming from south London and whilst we have something specific to do on the Sunday we are looking for something to amuse us on the Saturday. Are there any preserved railways or model railway exhibitions in the area we might target?
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted December 10, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 10, 2018 Loads of exhibitions within 30/45minutes of Warrington spread throughout the year. Hattons isn't too far away down the A57 (or M62) East Lancashire Railway. To name a few. Cheers, Mick
RMweb Gold Phatbob Posted December 11, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 11, 2018 Don't Miss Grimy Times Model Railways, Warrington's very own model shop. http://www.grimytimes.co.uk/Also The Warrington Transporter Bridge, the ONLY railway Transporter Bridge <Clarkson voice> "in the world". http://www.warringtontransporterbridge.co.uk/Also, as Mick says East Lancs not far away, plus Langollen Railway to too far away. Preston Docks railway not far.Or just get the train into Scousepool and grice the ChatMoss line, Liverpool Edge Hill, Lime Street and explore Williamson's tunnels.Alternatively, Manchester's Museum of Science and Industry has a lot of good railway stuff.Warrington's own most excellent Model Railway exhibition is mid-October BTW. woodenhead
No-one fancies an afternoon on Bank Quay station then - oh I forget, you'll have seen all the Pendolinos in London. You could take a ride on a class 319 - nope they were in London once too. If you're talking about a Saturday, how about a trip to any station on a Northern train - or maybe not if they're still striking and you know all about that in London as well. It does depend how you're getting to Warrington - if you've arrived by train then the East Lancs will be possible via any Wales services to Piccadilly and then Metrolink to Bury. Hattons is only really accessible in a rubber wheeled vehicle but there are model shops in Warrington and Widnes (assuming there are Northern services which there aren't at present).
