RMweb Gold scottystitch Posted December 21, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2018 This popped up on Flickr recently, although I'm sure I've seen the photo on Flickr before, or maybe a similar one by a different photographer. Hi-Res R0233 by Bill Wright, on Flickr I think it's a fascinating shot. Of particular interest to me are the two shed roads nearest the camera have been given over to the new diesels, complete with fuelling stations. Class 27, Class 26, Class 40 and what looks like maybe a class 24? Three A4s, an A2 and a Britannia included in the steam lineup. The bigger building in the background was the Engine workshops. The whole scene is now obliterated, with a Royal Mail depot and a Tesco on top. Best Scott
62613
Standard 4, another A4 and an A1 or A2 on the scrap line at the back. Is the A4 Lord Faringdon?
The Border Reiver
Standard 4, another A4 and an A1 or A2 on the scrap line at the back. Is the A4 Lord Faringdon? Lord Faringdon did not have a yellow stripe
62613
Lord Faringdon did not have a yellow stripe In close-up, it looks more like a line spray-painted through the number.
Bob Reid
In close-up, it looks more like a line spray-painted through the number. Looks like 60031 Golden Plover, which did have the stripe....
RMweb Gold The Pilotman Posted December 22, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 22, 2018 Have a look at the photographer's notes on the Flickr page and all will be revealed...
Arun Sharma
Looks like 60031 Golden Plover, which did have the stripe.... Agree - Merlin also had the strip but had a RN crest as well which the loco in question didn't. I have an idea that this pic or almost identical pics have been published on several occasions. The same engine [two angles] [readily identified as 60031] also appears in Perth on 3 Sep 1965 in the Colour-Rail catalogue Edited December 22, 2018 by Arun Sharma
62613
Fair enough, I stand corrected. A very interesting and in some ways poignant photo, all the same.
