george stein
Basic question. Wishing to repair/replace the "rod" often connecting axle boxes on GWR 4 wheel wagons and some bogies consequent of fat-fingers at club layout, is this "rod" a circular rod or a square beam? Any suggestions for less breakable material? Thanks George North Carolina
Miss Prism
Tiebars on wagons were round section on early wagons and rectangular section on later wagons.
RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted March 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 8, 2019 Try suitable profile brass rod or strip, depending on period, as available in many sizes from Eileen's Emporium - no connection except as a frequent and satisfied customer. If rod, flatten the ends. Perhaps replace the existing tiebars between the legs of the W irons as well, or thin them and use them to fix the new tiebar to. And if you are fussy then add in the bolt heads you have just destroyed. Jonathan
Steamport Southport
Cambrian Models make them as etchings to most of the popular lengths. https://www.cambrianmodelrail.co.uk/store/Etched-Tie-Bars-c25693290 Jason
george stein
Built several Cambrian wagons: never occurred to me to check out all the other Cambrian "goodies." Thanks for the link. George
