The Quorn Wagon & Wagon team will be welcoming visitors into Test Car 2, why not pop in and say hello to the team, and take a look inside this unique piece of railway history.

The Test Car will be situated in the station yard at Quorn & Woodhouse.

Our Brute trolleys and the A type container have new homes, and the Palvan wheelsets are attended to by the team at Quorn.

Interesting - we are patching up a palvan door at Alton at the moment. It probably needs to be totally replaced sooner or later but for now we are just sorting the worst of the rotten beams.

I think back in the 50's 60s lettering was done by signwriters so would vary a bit but as a rough rule of thumb, what size do you do your wagon numbers and WB/tare markings?

Hi,

good luck with the Palvan.

We have a couple of feature blogs about signwriting, painting and markings that we have used on our wagons, see our Quorn Wagon & Wagon webpage, this may help - https://quornwagonandwagon.co.uk/features/

Also attached is an 'example' of the lettering sizing and layout that we have used, but there were lots of variations on how and where lettering was applied so best to refer to pictures for actual layout etc for your wagon build/lot.

Excellent thanks.

I've got a reasonable idea of positioning and styles from modelling but when you get presented with a plank and told to paint a number on its a slightly different proposition!

We have some old templates used to spray through then touch up but they aren't really sans serif and it makes a hell of a mess. I'd prefer to make up a master for each number/letter, use these to draw the required number and lettering on paper each time and then use chalk to transfer to the wagon and hand paint in.
