WIMorrison
I would like to add DCC controller ambient sounds around my layout and have come across this module from Tams Electronik and I wonder if there is any experience or thoughts on it? https://tams-online.de/epages/642f1858-c39b-4b7d-af86-f6a1feaca0e4.mobile/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/642f1858-c39b-4b7d-af86-f6a1feaca0e4/Products/43-09217-01 if you are aware of alternatives please also let me know thanks
RobjUK
There are a few different variations here: http://www.train-tech.com/index.php/sound/scenic-sounds
pauliebanger
Iain, There are much better solutions to ambient sounds for layouts than DCC sound decoders; e.g., MP3players, Dream Player, Arduino and so on. Check out the Layout Sound group, https://groups.io/g/LayoutSound Best regards, Paul Edited September 1, 2019 by pauliebanger
WIMorrison
@pauliebanger - thanks for the tip on the group, I will pose the question there when I get approved @robjuk - I looked at the train-tech stuff before but it seemed very limited and totally inflexible which for the cost meant it wasn't a starter for me
WIMorrison
@pauliebanger how do I get approval for this group? I applied just after you posted your suggestion and I am still waiting approval

WIMorrison
@Ron Ron Ron I have looked at this before (https://pricom.com/sound-products) but the cost of the unit, plus the inability to control it using DCC commands means it won't work for me. I am hoping that this layoutsounds@group.io will come up with some ideas that are cheaper than the TAMS unit, but at around 25p per sound controlled by a DCC accessory command it is the most cost effective and functional unit I have seen so far. WIMorrison
Just to close this out and in cas ethere is any interest I purcahsed one of these units and I am - just amazed at how good it is. The sound qulaity is superb, though i did have to turn the volume down as it was too loud out of the box. Setiing up was an absolute doodle and it operates perfectly using accessory addresses - as if you are switching a turnout. Simply set (say) 201 from straight to branch and the sound for branch will play, set it back to straight and the spound for straight will play - and there are 253 that you can do this with! very impressive and the proce for the functionality is excellent - highly recommended.
