The Great Bear Posted September 5, 2019 Share Posted September 5, 2019 Hello I want to replace DCC concepts Cobalt point motors in my fiddle yard with surface mounted motors due to access problems. If I go for Peco or Seep surface solenoid motors how do I control them on DCC, what decoders? The points are electrofrog with rails bonded, how do I control the frog polarity, currently done by the Cobalt motors? (That's the main bit I'm struggling to understand looking at various products) Whether a single decoder per point or multiple points from a decoder I'm open to either. WIMorrison Posted September 5, 2019 Share Posted September 5, 2019 You can use a DR4018 as the accessory decoder to control the motors (very cost effective) and can I suggest that you look at the MTB MP1 motors? It may be worth a search of the internet suitable but cheaper accessory decoders by different manufacturers. Also ZTC used to produce Peco style motors with individual built in decoders. I have no experience of using these, but they do look to be a good solution for surface mounted motors. Quite why anyone would still use solenoids in this day and age, baffles me.
