Knowsley to Wilton Binliner

Hi,

I've been researching this train on RealTime trains with a view to copping it on my next trip to the UK.

I've seen that the loaded train takes the long way round, Knowsley, Wallgate, Warrington, and round the south side of Manchester, whereas the empty train comes by the more direct route Man Vic, Atherton lines, Wallgate.

What's the reason for this? Is it a pathing restriction, or a weight limit maybe?

Thanks,

John P

Resurrecting an old thread.

I found an article about this working which explained everything.

@newbryford  You are correct loaded trains avoid Miles Platting Bank, thanks.

In addition the Atherton line isn't open before 6am so early trains run through Man Vic the take the Chat Moss route and rejoin the WCML at Golborne Junction, others take the Atherton line.

Regards,

John P
