I agree that with 12v they are too much in your face so I plan to tone mine down a bit too - did going to 9v make any difference to the action of the little motor?

I am also seeing if I can make working illuminated ground signals from cut down Dapol N gauge signals.

Andy

The 2 servos don't seem to suffer with the 9v supply. Although I did try putting the switches in the control panel and the interference just created ghost movements.

I was very thoughtfully bought some 3D printed running in boards by my girlfriend as a Valentines present, so this afternoon has been spent working on station landscaping.

This shows the hill rising away from the headshunt end of the station.

I've also cut the paving slabs for the platform. These will get a coat of primer and be glued down tomorrow.20220218_221506.jpg.7ca450d85219b0120aafd7bfe862df2c.jpg

I also carved out the point rodding area last night which means I have got a first coat on the platform face.

You can now get a sense of how the finished layout is going to look.

And I think it's going to look damn good.

KBO

Thanks Rob, I have to admit, I was not expecting the foam to make such a difference.

I reckon there's a good 18 months at least to go yet, but thanks for the encouragement!

Another day of progress today.

Pretty much all the paving is completed and the first coat of grey across most of it.

20220220_194840.jpg.be17faec049f2431d3a7a37d5796840c.jpg

I've also stuck together the fencing on the end of the platform with two parcels gates providing entry to the platform. This runs all the way to where a larger fence blocking the toilet entrance shall be.

Finally, I found some time to highlight some brickwork on the signal box. All in all, a very productive day.20220220_194851.jpg.f1a5c84fc756caec030657eeee85ccf0.jpg

A little bit more progress yesterday with the completion of the brickwork on the signal box.

In celebration I ran 82020 on a parcels working. This proved that it very much needs a good service, stopping randomly all over the place... something for later in the week I think!

Further progress with the landscaping around the station.

Plastercloth down.

Then added the station forecourt. This turned out better than expected using a random bag of sand I found.

Next on the station development will be constructing the retaining walls, in a mixture of stone and brick, around the signal box.

I've had a little post work running session this evening. The recent scenic work has really started to bring the feeling of a little country station which is very pleasing.

Firstly, 4134 arrives at Coombe Town.

Having uncoupled, begins to run round, but faster than the signalman can react!

20220303_195042.jpg.660b7d86c1ef0ac21e7f38fcb6b5e3b4.jpg

Which provides an opportunity to look down the platform, which requires a few figures!

And finally 4134 draws forward to couple for the return journey.

Hopefully some progress on the signal box retaining wall over the weekend. In between rugby and a trip down to Yeovil to help with the preparations on Evercreech New for its display alongside Heaton Lodge Junction and friends.

Very busy weekend & week at work means not much progress on Coombe Town, although I have made a start on the wall...

20220310_222821.jpg.bc9120d15b0eaa489b61fc2655f7b62a.jpg

I am hoping to get some painting elsewhere on the layout done this weekend. Which leads me to this question, would the fence between the car park and the platform be painted Cream or White in BR (W) days?

It's hard to distinguish in photos really, I would imagine the taller fence by the gents would be Cream, but I'm not sure about the smaller ones.

The fence in question:20220305_115511.jpg.3e77179dff7f46e431027602ccc5e753.jpg

So I did start the fence yesterday, but no photos until it has been Weathered...

I've also completed construction of the retaining, with painting to go next.

20220312_191202.jpg.09ee0fbb137d7ea92d54c7f09b54cbf0.jpg20220312_191213.jpg.403ea9e8a7ad47b048e5d4af7f113c53.jpg

The Large Prairie made it to the platform under test. It runs much better now I have modified the trailing wheels, as others have suggested elsewhere.

I have realised that part of the issue is the fact that the switch blade on the point at the entrance relies on touch alone, and is very unreliable... so the rest of my evening shall be spent with the soldering iron!

And barely an hour later...

IMG_20220312_223714.jpg.fce01770f2b8cad573812decf35db8be.jpg

Two little bits of wire making all the difference.

20220312_223411.jpg.097f74ae6fc9011035ae36eb00406235.jpg

The Large Prairie now runs faultlessly across the point without stopping, even on the lowest speed step.

All it took was lifting the entire point...

Some different pictures today. The last two Sunday's I have spent down at Yeovil Model Railway Group working on their Evercreech New layout.

The layout will be on display alongside Heaton Lodge Junction at the Bath & West Showground in April. To get there the group is making a big push on the Prestleigh Viaduct end of the layout as presentable as possible. I've attached some overall views  and close-ups of the areas I have been working on below.

Nice - how are you forming these platform paving slabs?

Andy

Thanks Andy,

The paving slabs on the platform are SE Finecast paving slabs. The edging is just 2mm plasticard cut into a 12mm strip. Then groves cut every 16mm to represent 3'x4' slabs.

That works really well - I shall definitely steal your idea! Are you using FBS405 Paving Stones (white) or FBS405C Paving Stones (concrete) for the main platform?

Just the standard FBS405, they've had a coat of grey primer & Humbrol 64. They'll get some stones picked out in a few other grey shades, a dark brown wash before they're deemed "finished"

A little bit of modelling since I finished work.

Weathering powders added the fence to finish it off

20220317_185647.jpg.91507b3acca24c63ac04be8f4d777bf0.jpg

Those concrete posts really do need weathering to match!

Base colour has also been added to the brick and stone retaining wall behind the signal box.

I am well impressed by the fence too - really nice result. I went on a weathering session ten days ago and now appreciate the effect much more.

ps - do you have a standard height and clearance you are adopting for the platform edge relative to the rail?

Thanks Andy, I think that weathering does tie everything together. Leaving everything pristine just annoys me now, although I haven't dared touch a loco yet...

Most of the wagons below have been either factory Weathered or professionally done by TMC. The Oxford Mineral wagon in the middle, well that may have to be my next project!

20220317_204054.jpg.cac890f02eb025afc90e00cb970b2aa5.jpg

I have got dimensions, 14mm from railtop to platform surface. For the distance from the track, I have 12mm but would recommend the pencil on the corner of your longest coach, especially if it's near a curve.

Nice wagons - this is my attempt at weathering from the workshop:
