That could be an ornamental poppy, seeds dropped by birds or blown in. https://www.gardenia.net/plant/papaver-somniferum-pink-paeony Wish I could get the Flanders poppies to grow in my garden. 2

I would not cut anything until all of the flowers deadhead and drop their seeds; next year's beauty. I let most of my back lawn do that, there are these yellow flowers: and only a few daisys this year (last year there were way more): And two small clumps of these in the same spots each year: That's a nice back lawn you have there Dave, I did NO Mw May here and left a patch in my garden. I only ever get long grass to growing though no matter how many seeds I throw down!

BR traction instructor
3 months on from starting with this building site and shovelling all of the clay off the pitch (to a depth of over a foot) and replacing it with land drains & around 15 tons of topsoil. The wildlife is slowly arriving and the flora is generally finding its feet/starting to bush out… BeRTIe Edited June 30, 2022 by BR traction instructor

AndyB
Thanks @BR traction instructor & @Penrhos1920 nice to know what it is. I didn't mow it down as I figured the local wildlife might find it useful. But as I'm selling the property I suspect the new owners may have other ideas!

4901
I live in Utah, USA and this morning a "pest" control person came to the front door and said he was working on pest control in the area. He tried to sell his monthly eradication services and I told him we didn't have any problems. He then said there is an earwig in the flowers by the front door. I said we don't have problems with insects - they are important for the environment. He looked at me as though I was mad. He left. 2

I am considering a pest control contract here; mainly for fire ants and wasps.
