dj_crisp
Hello! Despite being "too modern" and so outside of my era modelled (and it's not a diesel) I quite fancy doing 8f 8274 for my steam hauled specials in 4mm... Really like this one from Flickr and one I've actually seen moving in Ruddington; As you may have guessed I've very little idea about steam locos.... please could you help me and tell me what type and roughly what size of lettering has been used? I've got as far as finding out there is gold and yellow LMS lettering when looking HMRS transfers. Also the smokebox numerals look rather interesting - does anyone produce these? After that I think even me with my abilities might be able to do the livery (lol) - the only thing remaining that looks a bit tricky is getting the metailic silver grey look of the pistons, smokebox dart and reversing handle. Many Thanks! Will
Steamport Southport
The smokebox numerals are on a cast iron plate. The same goes for the shedplate 20D. 247 Developments don't do number 8274, but if you ask him he will do them. They and other manufacturers do the 20D shedplate. https://www.247developments.co.uk/LMS_NUMBERS.html The transfers are Yellow shaded Red rather than Gold. Found on this sheet. https://hmrs.org.uk/transfers/lms-yellow-loco-and-coach-insignia-150323.html I think the numbers will be the smallest size on the sheet which is 10 inches. The LMS was the same size on everything, but the spacing differed. Painting the embellishments. Try something from the Humbrol Metallic range. Something like "polished steel" will be close.
