JLTRT Midland 1 plank instructions

Thanks to Laurie at MM1 I now have a copy of the instructions, which apply to all their pre-group wagons. But they have not resolved a couple of things that were puzzling me:

1) although the W irons appear to be mounted correctly, they hold the axle boxes too close together to accommodate the recommended Slaters axles.

2) the instructions confirm that the axle boxes are intended to slide in the W irons, but there's no provision for springing/compensation.

Before I start improvising, am I missing something?

I've done a couple of JLTRT kits and agree with Duncan.  Resin castings are great but too much reliance on whitemetal.   Having to drill out WM buffer housings is just unacceptable.  I have tried this with parts from another kit and the exercise is agonizing.  I ditched them and got buffers from Invertrain.

If you want sprung axleboxes, I would substitute the W irons for Bill Bedford products or Slater's.
