Dalbeattie

Here's the picture clue you could have used ( http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/447749 ) : :)

Railway bridge (remaining buttresses) across the Urr
This is part of the old Dalbeattie - Castle Douglas line opened in 1859 and closed under Beeching in the 1960s

Lots of railway in this square

post-7483-0-86083900-1367776572.png

The footpath is not an old railway line. The steetview shot from the road rather gives the game away so another clue instead; the existing line in the square is freight and specials only.

The disused lines are coming out of Seaton Junction, the in-service route is just north of Harringworth viaduct.

Try this one.

An early build that got its engineer into trouble.

Hmm, been a week and no takers.  Another clue

The route featured winch worked inclines.

We seem to be struggling with this one.  Try two squares.

Well, I'd say it was somewhere in Derbyshire, but where, I don't know!

Cromford and High peak would be the obvious one?

Right idea, but several counties out.

The Waskerley Way Cycle track?

Edit: If you will bear with me, it's many a month since I have played so it may be tomorrow morning before I can refresh my memory as to how I cut and pasted squares.

Here is the puzzle square(s)

And the next one

Clue: It has been used as, amongst other things, a test track.
