RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted September 10, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 10, 2012 Well done, Steve - you're right. Local knowledge I assume! Sadly also the site of another accident (which links with Martin's previous as I found it while checking the list on Wikipedia...)
Steve K
Indeed - very local knowledge. If you look at my Forgotten Railways thread, there are a fair few pictures taken in that square! Here we are, with the proof: And on the subject of accidents (not that I'm suggesting such a gruesome theme), now for one of my own: If you'd stood here in November 1944, you'd have likely as not been deafened and possibly hit by pieces of flying cow. RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted September 10, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 10, 2012 Sutton Coldfield: Formerly (?) the home of "Don's Miniature New Street" and associated model of Rugeley A Power Station - with 9 cooling towers! The next square contains not only a standard gauge line, but also two miniature railways and a former show venue! But where is it? Arrgh - noticed Steve posted his answer while I've been getting squares together! What happens now? Sorry "RJS" - Steve did beat you to it. I normally claim a win by just posting the name of the place first, then editing to include the "proof" and new square afterwards. That way you lessen the chance of being beaten to it. Keep your square for next time you win...!
Steve K
Sorry for the brief delay between posts - I recognised the other square, but took a few minutes to get one of my own sorted, as I had nothing prepared. It left give me with the surreal situation where Martin appeared to confidently identify my square as Reading, though (it isn't!).
RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted September 10, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 10, 2012 Oh dear - there's 2 separate contests going on! Martin, well done for finding Reading, but can we try to solve Steve K's square & go on from that one?
RMweb Gold martin_wynne Posted September 10, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 10, 2012 er, some confusion here? Let's continue with Steve's square. p.s. RJS -- if you post a square containing a road number, it won't last long! Martin.
RJS1977
Yes, I thought that one would be found quickly, but as it includes my clubroom, I had to get it in! No idea where Steve's is, though! :-(
Shadow
Just to the west of Tutbury, the flying cows came from the direction of RAF Fauld, a weapons factory that went bang. (A very big bang!) New map in a minute or two!

Steve K
... the flying cows came from the direction of RAF Fauld, a weapons factory that went bang.(A very big bang!) Well done - I believe it was one of the biggest non-nuclear explosions ever known. The crater is well worth a look if you're ever in the area! RJS1977
Radstock: Wasn't there a preservation society there at one time? Is that still on the go? Now, where's this? (The trackbed - indeed, briefly the site of a "loco shed" - is pretty much where the "24" is, in case you're wondering!) RJS1977
I'll let you have it - the location's correct (Monkton Combe, just north/west of Midford), but it's not on the S & D, it's on the Camerton - Limpley Stoke branch. The "loco shed" to which I referred was the shed erected by the villagers in "The Titfield Thunderbolt", which was shot on the line. The sites of "Titfield" station and "Beale's Farm" are also shown in that square.
Steve K
Next I've had a wee search for this as, I'm sure, have several others, but with no success. Could we have a small clue please?
dagrizz
I searched too and found it south of Barnstaple.
dagrizz
As large industry in Britain is not as common as it was, I trust this square won't take you too long.
dagrizz
Clue, The area is better known for the chemical and oil industries, but I think the factory in the square is connected with the nuclear industry.
