Think I'd have to discipline myself for modelling in off duty hours only; imagine the embarrassment if you'd missed and obvious 'smoke' because you'd been distracted numbering a wagon...

There are relatively few human US Forest Service fire spotters these days. The job is now often done with infrared cameras and automation. Cameras can be pointed at locations where lightning strikes are detected by Doppler RADAR.

 

Many of the retired lookout towers can be rented as vacation cabins.

Spot on.  I just have an exceedingly large number* of books and they're all packed away at present.

 

* And due to circumstances, I have culled the number by at least 50% and still have far too many...
