Gordon A
I seem to think that some signal boxes had a lever that locked crossing gates in the open position for the trains. What colour were they painted please? Gordon A

RailWest
But...if you are talking about earlier days, the GWR at least painted such things blue. Allegedly the L&SWR also painted their Gate Locks blue, but their wicket levers green (same as distants!). Michael Hodgson
Level crossings are sometimes worked by a crossing keeper using a ground frame released by the signalbox. The ground frame release lever would usually be painted blue over brown, but practice varied.
RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted August 23, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 23, 2021 By BR days were all such levers brown no matter what region, especially on the Southern. 1
