Many received IC livery. Some lasted into the late 90s on the Scottish sleepers, until replaced by the Mk2e BUOs.
Pandora
BR became Railtrack on 1st April 1994. Excluding the SR EMUs , 1957 or 1963 stock, how long did those loco-hauled Mark 1 full brakes and buffet cars remain in service post-privatisation? Satan's Goldfish
I don't know if it's the right type of service to op is looking for, but on one of the FaceBook picture groups i've seen several images of early 90s summer Saturday workings to Great Yarmouth from Midlands/Northern locations that still have the odd IC mk1 in the formation. The rest of the formation is a mish mash of blue/grey, NSE, and reggie rail mk2s with any available 47 (freight) on the front so they were probably sets made up from any available stock and i don't know if they would be classed as IC services or not. RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted December 5, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 5, 2021 5 hours ago, Pandora said: BR became Railtrack on 1st April 1994. No it didn't. Railtrack simply took over track and infrastructure. The trains were owned by BR, and traincrew, station and depot staff remained BR employees, in many cases for at least two more years until the TOCs were launched. Then there were the infrastructure maintainers - engineers and support staff of various disciplines - all of whom were still employed by BR within the Infrastructure Service Units and Track Renewals Units within BRIS - British Rail Infrastructure Services. Their main customer was Railtrack under the RT1 contract. These units were sold during 1996. One or two parts of BR never were privatised, e.g. BR Property Board, which held the Burdensome Estate of closed lines and other bits of property Railtrack didn't want.
EddieK
I transferred to Wembley Carriage Depot in August 1989. A month or two prior to this, set WB08 had a mishap where the Motor Alternator fell off the underside of one of the Mark 3 TSO vehicles. I don't think there was a derailment (but my memory is not the best) but most of the other TSOs in that set suffered damage to the bogies and underfloor equipment. In order to get the set back into traffic, some Mark 1 TSOs were borrowed from the IC Special Trains people, and the resulting formation was Mark 1 BG - 2x Mark 3a FO - Mark 3a RF - Mark 3a TSO (accessible toilet) - 5x Mark 1 TSO. WB08 was kept on an "out and back" diagram so that it returned to Wembley every night. Also, around 1989/90, I recall travelling to Crewe for some reason on (from memory) one of the sets WB01-03, which at that time had Mark 3a First Class and Buffet, but Mark 2f TSOs, but the set had a Mark 2 PV coach and a Mark 1 TSO in it. As I recall, the ride to Crewe in the Mark 1 was very comfy also very warm with the heater on full power beneath my seat.
Steamport Southport
Found my copy of the Platform Five book for 1996 (which says correct for 22/11/95). Useful book as it recorded liveries. Just Mark Ones in Intercity livery and ignoring specials such as barrier vehicles and generator vans. There was also still some in Blue/Grey but those seem to be in storage.
