HealeyMills
I have been using the buffer-beam detailing parts that acompany the Dapol 86241 but I've hit a bit of a brickwall when it comes to this part (excuse the v.poor photography but the part is aprox. 2 - 3mm across), see pics 1 & 2. On the underside of the Dapol class 86 (left-hand side corner) there is a rectangular hole (perhaps for the rectangular stub on the above). I wondered whether it is this item as seen on 86206, see circled area in pic 3. Can anyone tell me what this is on the real loco and is the part correct and in the right place? Any help that can be provided will be very much appreciated. Many thanks Lee
Bomag
It's the ETH jumper socket. The coach will have a cable similar to the one on the RHS of the loco which plugs into it. I haven't put any parts on yet but I too made the same assumption. Given the limited swing of the bogie I cannot see why it could not have been moulded. But then I think that a RTR loco should have the nameplates fitted, something Dapol disagrees with!

RBE
Here here Andi. I reckon they should supply all the bits in a bag with no numbers on at all so you can choose exactly which loco you want to model and what details it needs!!
RMweb Gold Revolution Ben Posted June 15, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 15, 2010 Hi folks They tried an un-numbered BR Blue loco (a 73) with decals for the modeller to fit about 3 years ago but sold hardly any. Having said that, I like having separate bits to fit - gives an added frisson when opening the box (that does sound a little tragic) and also makes me feel that I am doing something to improve the loco and makes the bits easier to paint. cheers Ben A. If I buy a kit I expect to have to do the work. If I buy RTR I expect it to be complete.
Mike at C&M
For the BR Blue models, part of the reasoning behind doing 2 different numbers was to give people the choice of which they would like. It also has to be said that we hoped that some people would then buy both numbers so encouraging additional sales, and some customers, such as Lee, bought further examples to renumber themselves. Because of the need to do an additional printing plate, the cost of the locos to us from Dapol was slightly higher than the other version Dapol did, but this has been more than justified by the resulting sales. If anyone wants any BR Blue 86s, we still have supplies of both available from stock. Mike Parsons C&M Models
RBE
I model the complete railway I don't model individual vehicles (which is why I model in N gauge). If I buy a kit I expect to have to do the work. If I buy RTR I expect it to be complete. I see your point of view but I'm not saying make it a kit, I'm saying lets have models that we can make into as many different locos as we want in the easiest way possible. If they came un-numbered/logo'd (which brings up another point, why we don't get etched arrows and names etc in RTR boxes for loco's that need 'em really bugs me too (I know some are added but not many), at the price they charge for a loco I think etched stuff should come as standard and why the hell we get printed names on locos etc when they do include the etch baffles me even more!! Still thats another argument) and with a few various parts seperate then we would negate having to strip numbers off or change details that are factory fitted to get something that 1001 other layouts hasn't got running around. Plus I think the child in a sweet shop feeling fades quicker if it comes straight out of the box onto the track. When you have to work at it a little bit the loco/stock/building steals a place in your heart. Cav
philiprporter
Apologies for resurrecting a very old thread, but I've got 2 of these pieces to fit to a Dapol 86 and I'm struggling to see the resemblance between the plastic ETH socket and the real thing, so I'm really puzzled as to how Dapol intend it to be fitted to the 86? There are two square holes on the chassis where the ETH socket looks like it should go, but I have no idea which 'bit' of the plastic ETH socket goes in this hole - if indeed this is the intention of the square hole or if the ETH socket is just meant to be glued to the chassis base ignoring this square hole? Can anyone help? I've attached a few pictures - apologies for the poor quality but these are tiny pieces and very hard to photograph! Cheers, Phil. I'm away at the moment so can't check, but I'm 99% sure they are n-Brass Locos Oleo buffers. Cheers, Phil.
