Removed a/c
Fantastic and such attention to detail. Looking forward to the next round of updates.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted May 1, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 1, 2012 So, I'm still messing about with detailing other than around the mine site, this time it's a horse drawn milk float, a Dart Castings L46, a very good kit. I'm not really sure if it will be used on here or Felton Lane but probably both! It's painted with Vallejo 70916 'Sand Yellow' and I used my sparkling new (well, last December) airbrush for the first time, great fun! The red lining was applied with a mapping pen and it follows beading and around the scallops on the sides and front. I think it's gone quite well. The pig creel has now been painted and ready to install when I get the Mill board out.

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted May 28, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 28, 2012 So, finally something to show of the 'clutter' around the mine site, a couple of old head wheels (modified Langley 7mm cart wheels) - I'm considering cutting the centres of these out (they're not fixed down yet and may be sited elsewhere) and standing some gas cutting gear next to them as though they are being cut up, I have some gas bottles ordered from GEM. There's also some steel beams, pipes, timber and a couple of cable drums. Coal is delivered to the end of the loading siding and the wagons emptied during the night when there are no hoppers being loaded in the siding. Sides made from 1.5mm wood with a balsa former that will be painted black and covered with coal. (The figures are held with Blutac until I decide exactly where to put them. RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted May 29, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 29, 2012 Tonight I've added the coal and fixed the figures and the barrow, I'm quite pleased with this bit now, I made and fitted this road sign in November 2008 and I've finally got round to fitting the top. It's a small washer and it should read 'Yorks North Riding C C' but I've used the simpler alternative 'N R Y C C'. I cannot get the R on right! it looks ok from normal viewing distance though. Extremely cruel close up...

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted June 5, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 5, 2012 I've been doing some work on the signals over the last few days and have got the four on board 3 working. I've rigged up an old laptop power pack to run the ESU SwitchPilot Servo controller (I have another 2 of these ordered) as during my first experiments I discovered that they need quite a bit of power, this power pack can supply 6A so it should run OK. I've had to slightly redesign the control panel, replace the on/on switches with on/off/on (sprung off) ones and add quite a few more wires but I seem to be winning now. The shunt arm in the video needs adjusting and this will be done with the servo controller. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3TOeGbRgjw
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted June 5, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 5, 2012 I've adjusted the shunt arm and it's stopping in the right place now, I've also made the main arm run a bit faster.

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted June 12, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 12, 2012 The North Eastern region was very forward thinking in 1955! But then the NER was using buckeyes long before everyone else (they also rejected them).
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted June 17, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 17, 2012 I first spotted these Noch 'Laser Cut Minis' some time ago and saw them again on the Greenscene stand at Wigan yesterday and thought I would give them a try. Most of them are of little use to me but there are a couple that I could use. The first are some ferns, I bought two of packs of 'H0' ones (9 per pack) and one in 'N' (12 per pack) and they work really well. I used a small pozidrive screwdriver to form them round then I curved the fronds (leaves) over. They were then fixed in place by the beck on the mill board. An' nay self respecting garden i' Yorksher would be wiyout a clump o' roobob...

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted June 24, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2012 I've been making some progress with the signals, all the servos are now mounted under the baseboards and these will be tested and adjusted before the signals are attached. It's a little chaotic down there... The brass nut/white bolt is securing the signal and the two brass wires either side are the operating wires. These latest signals don't have adjusters, this can be done electronically with the SwitchPilot Servo seen on the left. I've had these oil barrels painted green for a while now and tonight I have printed and cut out some BP logos to finish them off. Each logo is 4mm high. RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted June 25, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 25, 2012 Ventilation. Greyscroft Mine is equiped with a Guibal fan house to keep the workings ventilated. The model is based on the one at Huntcliff mine between Brotton and Carlin Howe. I built it about 5 years ago and is made from mounting board and is smaller than scale, it's nearer 3mm than 4, full size was going to be a bit too big. There is a small fan mounted under the baseboard and the effect is usually shown by a stick with strips of paper fastened to the end. Huntcliff Fan house. Greyscroft Fan house. RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted June 28, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 28, 2012 I took delivery on Wednesday night of the stone conveyor for the mine that '49395' has made and I have now fitted some strips of wood for the belt to run in, this also forms a frame to mount it on the layout. The intention is to have the conveyor removable (actually it has to be as the baseboard lid won't go on with it fitted). A hole has been cut in the backscene and some strips of wood glued inside the building to locate it. Outside the backscene, a hopper will be mounted above the belt here. It will be manually operated for now but the intention is to fit a motor. Passing over the track, it might take a bit of disguising here! it will also need something under the belt to stop stone dust falling onto the track. With stone! The under side of the belt showing the adjuster, this is the end in the building. The outer end showing the operating rod.
49395
Yay, the conveyor fitted, and it was long enough, thats a bonus...
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 1, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 1, 2012 Those little details that you didn't know you needed... I'm not sure if these maintainence limit posts were at every bridge but I spotted this one at Beck Hole on the NYMR quite a while ago, it has BR on the railway side and NRYCC (North Riding Yorkshire County Council) on the other. I've made mine out of 1.5mm plastic strip and put one at each 'corner' of the bridge although I'm not sure if they installed this many. And no, I haven't scribed the letters on it...
