dj_crisp
Nice! Please can you ask the factory to do the weathering before fitting the glazing?

cs233
Looks good, the missed areas of weathering on the wheels exposing the shiny toy like finish are not ideal though. Hopefully the production finished version will not suffer this

Hopefully the production finished version will not suffer this Often a problem with most factory weathered models, danger could be by doing more to the wheels, you risk getting paint on pickups, adding another headache to QC. Would be interesting to hear what the manufacturing process is behind weathering. I.e how bits are masked up and in what order etc. Although I get the feeling it’s a trade secret among each brand.
RMweb Premium Gary H Posted August 10, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 10, 2022 Have these models got proper brass axle bearings like Bachmann etc or are we still going with the Lima way of doing things from 1980?

These totally new tooled models have absolutely no connection with any Lima models of the past and will have brass axle bearings. Why would you assume that Heljan models are not so designed? Why would you assume that Heljan models are not so designed? Plenty of them have no bearing's, the Class 86 and Class 16 are two that don't off the top of my head. Was quite alarmed to see it (or the lack of) when I removed the base keeper plate from an 86, supposedly a high end model but instead akin to a Limby. Everybody else seems to be engineering this simple feature into their models drive train these days, it cant be that hard. Bachmann have been doing it on their diesels for about 20 years now.
