I was going to leave off one layer then I looked out of the window this morning and put on an extra scarf as well as full Dark Peak Explorer gear.

After spending the week shivering in my generally warm home I was thinking I was going to also have to put on my big winter coat, but I stepped outside to find it was actually milder than it had been - glad I didn't got full Antarctic.  Though I now recognise, it perhaps masked me from the true temperature in the halls.

It was very nice to chat at Sherton Abbas, Tony.

We reckon it's the busiest show we've attended, a good sign for the organisers and the hobby.

It was good to chat with you and "Wenlock" too.

It was worth the trip just to see Sherton Abbas. There were plenty of superb layouts there but that was my favourite.

Morning everyone

Yes it was good to see it so busy yesterday and being from Devon there were lots of top quality layouts that I hadn’t seen before.
I’m helping Paul operate Moors View today so feel free to introduce yourself if you come and see us.

Day 2 and just two hours left.  Heating problem solved (until the get-out).  Catering better but not good enough. Card machines blocked out for about two hours but now back on line.  Decent crowd but probably not enough to cover costs - but WE ARE BACK AFTER TWO YEARS AWAY!!!

Hi Philip

Just to say that I really enjoyed the exhibition yesterday , I had no problems with food , we stopped at Wetherspoons on Oxford Road for a full English.

Would have liked a few more specialists traders but it looks like them days may have gone , I’ve just read about the demise of Eileen’s Euphoria.

Sorry to read that it may not have broke even, I thought with the crowd yesterday that it was a winner . I do hope you are able to put the exhibition on next year at the same venue.

Dennis

Well, I did get my lift into Manchester and thank goodness I did!

It was the best show I have been to in a long while.

The selection and quality of layouts was fantastic, the venue and arrangement of the exhibits was very well done - yes, the catering left something to be desired but hopefully, whoever does it next year will be better prepared for us hungry and thirsty droves.

 I cannot show any better pictures than those already shown but I haven’t seen this layout pictured yet;

Stromboli picture.

This was the final showing of Teign House sidings, I really like this one as well as so many others.

Scenery picture.
Actually, just look at the undergrowth on Sherton Abbas - simply superb.

Cheers,

 John

Blimey, just before midnight and finally got back to Exeter.

We really enjoyed the show and it’s lovely looking through the photos and comments above. Thanks also to Phil and everyone who organised it, who made us feel so welcome, it was really good meeting people in a completely different area to our normal stamping ground and Moors View seemed to go down well which was great. I’ll make sure Paul sees this tomorrow.

Now I’m going to bed!

From John and me, the operators of Great White River Navigation Extraction and Steam Packet Company, thanks to Phil and his colleagues for an enjoyable weekend.  Good venue.  We were in the warmer hall!

All involved were unfailingly helpful.

Thanks also to Doug for our mutual reminisces about our lorry driving days!

South Pelaw was back home and unpacked by 11 last night.  Notwithstanding the issues that have already been mentioned we had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend among some superb layouts.  Whilst not in my chosen gauge and about as far removed from my modelling interests as it is possible to get, my favourite other layout at the show was Sherton Abbas.

There was some absolutely top quality stuff there. I didn’t get a chance to look around at the last show we did but I got a couple of proper goes around this weekend and took some photos too. Sherton Abbas was one of my favourites as well.

Funnily enough South Pelaw was my favourite layout,  opposites obviously do attract!🙂

My main modelling interest isn't even covered by what you saw on South Pelaw.  Whilst I'm part of the group that built/exhibits it, my personal modelling is the same location but in P4 with 70s blue diesels 😀

As for Sherton Abbas, I thought it one of those rare layouts that actually looks even better in person that it does in print.

Massive thank you to everyone who came along to the Manchester show and supported me, providing me with the best takings for NWM at a show ever!

This has made such a difference that will allow me to expand the range of products on offer, in particular the tools and materials range to help fill in the void now left by the sudden closure of Eillen's Emporium. Of course i will be continuing to expand the detailing kits and accessories ranges in all 4 popular scales (N, OO, oo9 and O).

As can be expected a number of products are curently out of stock on my website, however this will be updated and rectified asap! with the hopeful arrival of fresh stock over the next few weeks.

Cheers

I very much enjoyed both Shap and South Pelaw, both of which more than delivered in the flesh. Lots of other good stuff there as well, including the snow scene and the massive WHR one, among many others.

I'm sorry we didn't get to chat, John, although perhaps we did anyway without me realising it? I was Robin to Dave's Batman, or the monkey to the organ-grinder, depending on your preference!

Dave drove back last night while my wife and I stopped over in Manchester for another night. Today if anything seemed even colder than the preceding ones, with the journey home seasoned by crowded, late-running Class 150 with no trolley service, all the way from Manchester to Cardiff. At least there was a train.

We may have done, unfortunately, there wasn't as much chance to chat as usually I like to do as we were a bit short on operators so shifts were a bit longer than usual and, as one of the signalmen, it's difficult to chat while setting routes and signals for four drivers...
