Fascinating old adverts for railway equipment

Ahh, somethings never change "this lorry could be up there...if only it were a road railer" we're still trying to get freight off the road and onto rail 60 years or so later!

Enjoy the advert :)

Oh yes, and stylised prototype Deltic puts in an appearance too (gets around a bit doesn't it?)

I don't mean this in any way disrespectful, but that "ampersand" caught my eye!

Kev.

(looks like another "front address" in somewhere posh.

But, Grosvenor Gardens is somehow a bit downbeat on the northern side, I think because of all the traffic.

Also, I’m fairly sure I’ve been in a building along there that had been the HQ of the Institution of Locomotive Engineers before that body merged with IMechE. If I’m right about that then there must have been a bit of a railway engineering colony there.

Having worked in quite a few properties in the Grosvenor area of London I do struggle to picture engineering companies there - no matter how well esteemed they were at the time.

Dad worked in a drawing office just round the corner from Victoria Station in the late 50s/early 60s; so not impossible

Some more 'reinforced plastic' products for this evening - do I take it from this advert that the 'leading ends' of transpennine units referred to, mean that the Class 124 DMU's had Glass fibre reinforced cabs?

I would have thought a picture of the Transpennine units would be more attractive & worthy of inclusion than a mere 'no parking' sign!

Definitely!

I wonder why they didn't use a nice picture of a 124?

They could even have popped in a styalised version of the prototype 'Deltic' (why not everyone else seems to have done!!!) next to some of their other products.

I wonder if this ad comes second after the timber treatment one, in the least inspiring stakes?

Also  - I hope the top illustration wasn't a prototype for some of their other 'leading ends'!!!!!!

Though possibly an improvement on a 73 😀

Great stuff, I'm always amazed at what they have managed to preserve - must pay a visit one day soon!

I remember them saying when they aquired that pair that there weren't actually many of the things made.

This report from their website says there were only 6 produced!

Good evening all, there almost seems a note of desperation in this advert for 'Alfloc' water treatment!

Maybe they though their market would disappear completely as steam engines were replaced by diesels?

Then someone hit on an idea - 'wait a minute diesels have water based cooling systems - we're not doomed after all!'😃

This advert was ripe for a cameo appearance of the 'artists impression of a prototype Deltic' I'm amazed it doesn't feature!
