TRACKSETTA 2ND RADIUS.

Anyone advise me on which of these gives 2nd radius curve that manufactures state there minimum to which this locomotive will run. Thank You.

Whilst I’m not familiar with Tracksetta itself, manufacturers restrictions generally quote 2nd radius as the minimum, which in Peco set track terms is 438mm radius.

According to the Hattons website  - 2nd radius = 18 inches, which  I believe is the dark blue curved Tracksetta

Technically, 2nd radius is 17 1/4 inches (438 mm), so you would need the 18 inch Tracksetta.

Isn't it easier just to buy some, er...2nd radius SetTrack curves?  They are available in 45° (double curve), 22.5° (standard curve) & 11.25° (half curve) subtended angles and it's straightforward enough to cut them down to the angle that you need e.g. to fit with Streamline geometry.  Probably easier than trying to coax flexi down to such a tight radius.

I'm actually going to pick a hole in my own post here: SetTrack* isn't such an obviously straightforward solution if the rest of your layout is Code 75.  Although tracks & rail joiners that allow code 76 and code 100 to connect do exist, the use of mixed rail codes might detract somewhat from the effect being sought after.

 

* Thinking here about Peco & Hornby.  I know nothing of fixed geometry trackage from other manufacturers e.g. Kato.

Surely it's a bit contrary using 18" corners on fine scale track unless it's in the hidden sections?

The one you want is Tracksetta  OOT18 Template 18" Radius, whose 457mm radius is slightly larger than Setrack Radius 2, which is 438 mm or 17.25".
