It had to come from pits somewhere and as the GWR had their fare share of them, these could have been just as likely seen on their metals as anywhere else. Given that the MOY depots are in Colchester and Peterborough and there were many coal mines much closer than any in GWR territory I doubt very much that they or their customers would have paid the extra transportation costs to obtain Forest or Welsh coal, no matter the quality.
