Kof II diesel shunters..

For those who favour O gauge,  and can get hold of the old Lima 4 wheel shunter, this can be easily turned into a Kof. I did this to mine [purchased in the 1970's], it's simply a matter of cutting down the cab and bonnet  to a chosen height. The base [footplate, etc] is almost fit for a Kof anyway. There is plenty of room for the motor [or a modern computer motor?]....

I did this based on a distant memory of someone commenting decades ago, that the Lima shunter was a Kof but the body was too high.

Purely a sort of exercise, in seeing if it could ''be done?''

I have a few European O gauge wagons, but, sadly, they seem to be of different scales....Oh well......just a thought?

What the below needs are some decent buffers...Some Kofs had extended buffer beams..possibly for shifting coaching sock, perhaps?

After reading this thread, i went searching for my Roco Kof lll, it's an early DC model, my question is does any one know the part number for the NEM socket or suitable replacement, both mine have lost the plastic arms and won't re-centre, thinking of going down the Kadee route for coupling

Hi Jack,

 I don’t know how old your model is, it may well be older than illustrated here;

https://www.roco.cc/static/version1662032330/frontend/Casisoft/Roco/en_GB/doc/ET/1/DE/63862_10740.pdf

If it is, then page two, item 10 = 95449

Hope that helps,

John

Afternoon all,

Well, it took a while but we now have two small European 0.4.0 shunters at Chateau Sheep.

Both are Era III Italian jobs, HO gauge.

One is a Lenz Kof ii. Fully digital, including coupling and uncoupling. It's absolutley delightful.

The second is a Lilliput Badoni. This is analogue but will be chipped eventually.

Both acquired direct from Italy and I'm very impressed with them. Running qualities are excellent and they are very well finished indeed.

Now to figure out what to do with them.

Something small, shunty, simple and sunny springs to mind

Rob.

Nordlingen Railway museum in Bavaria is well worth a visit if one gets the chance. The museum clearly believes that once can never have too many Kofs. I've been there a few times and checking back through my photos when I came across this thread I found some pictures of the wee beasties. First here are some taken in August 2007. The first two pictures show a partial view of the roundhouse. The second two show some hiding in the heavy workshop building. There are all sorts of wierd and wonderful things at Nordlingen.

Great stuff! in that area most of the locomotives looked like tanks in African corps camouflage. Especially the larger electric ones.

Some work on the rails has to be done as well, all Italian rails are painted white. Probably to reflect the heat.

And you have to rename Chateau Sheep into Castello Pecora.

Like it that the Liliput Badoni one has a Lecco label on it. Was living in the district of Lecco for 11 years. And I had of course a layout....

Little look into epoch 5 (and I was to lazy to paint the rail sides...)
