RMweb Premium finelines Posted February 8, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 8, 2023 Thanks Paul. I’m quite surprised at only a foot longer the proportions look a lot different. I assume the door is the same as on a 9 footer. My son’s late father in law used to work at Horwich until it closed. Roger
RMweb Premium MJI Posted February 9, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 9, 2023 The Airfix kit is a good base for modification. Raid other kits for clasp brake gear or investigate MJT components.

These are both Airfix bodies, the one on the left is on a Parkside chassis. I think I prefer the squarer Airfix/Dapol axleboxes. (missing vac cylinders now I look - I must not have had spares when I did these, that can be corrected now) Mainline body reworked on the left as a 10ft example Mainline/Red Panda 10ft wb and Airfix (again) All still need couplings and weathering! For the 9ft retrofitted versions, note that the tiebars were L shaped with the out web of the L facing out and that they were all from lots 2917 to 2922 which have a distinctive reinforcing rib in the brake levers. A list of converted wagons is in "Wagons of the Final Years of British Railways" by David Larkin, pages 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, and 33! Amazing work 41516 with your mineral wagons, just shows what can be achieved from the old airfix kits, Can I ask what material you used for the L shaped tiebars? Many thanks Ben Edited November 19, 2023 by Ben86 1
41516
0.8mm 'L' angle shaped brass. This was from the now sadly defunct Eileens Emporium. Holiday Hobbies have it in 1m lengths (ZM1L - 1M 0.8 x 0.8mm Brass Angle) and it might be available elsewhere.

41516
@Ben86 Definately 51L BRC022s, with the heavy duty riveted side plates cut off, although looking at the prototype again, I think they should be BRC023s, with the hood - I must have either not looked properly, or used what I had at the time. How are your minerals coming on? Edited April 24 by 41516

How are your minerals coming on? Thank you for the quick reply, those will come in handy for a few of my iron ore tipplers, with accurascale announcing there 16t mineral wagons I have rebodied my Bachmann wagons into internal user scrap wagons based on wagons seen at BSC tinsley park, this is for a future shunting plank based on a steel works. Both wagons are Bachmann but one has had the break gear modified and a tie bar added to look like a MXV wagon and the other is a standard MCO wagon. The first wagon is a red panda 10ft mineral chassis with a scratch built body sat on top, there’s still a lot to add break gear, buffers and couplings. The second wagon is another MXV conversion as above. Thanks Ben
