Heads up for anyone going:  It's due to arrive at Didcot from Birmingham at 10:10 and leave at 15:01.  Therefore given the need to turn and service the locos before departure I would expect the 4 Castle line-up to be in the morning after arrival and finish possibly around lunch time.

Full times for the specials can be found at https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:U66121/2023-03-04/detailed and https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:U66124/2023-03-04/detailed

As an update I understand that all online advance tickets have been sold and there will only around 150 tickets available on the day on a "first come, first served" basis.  The gates open at 09:30.

Looks like an excellent day! Couldn’t turn out due to trip to Prague but will be out for two castles up the Lickey on 18th March and 4079 on the Severn Valley.

I was at Abrail most of the day yesterday, but we left early enough to catch the two Castles tearing through Radley station on their way to Oxford.

I was a too close to get any decent pictures, but they did sound wonderful!

I think 18th March is being postponed as the industrial action that day means they cannot use Shrub Hill station

Some of mine from yesterday.

1Z29 at Nuneham Crossing north of Culham.  Thanks to a 20mph TRS on Nuneham Viaduct they opened up as they passed.  Pity about the dank, grey skies.

Waiting to leave the yard at Didcot to collect the return train.

1Z43 approaching Culham on the return trip.  They cut off before passing us for the viaduct TRS.

Really magnificent pictures, and what showpiece at Didcot

Just a shame a GWS affiliate is so intent on breaking a fifth castle for parts....! Slight hypocrisy there from Didcot Railway Centre (celebrating and destroying at the same time)

Not entirely certain that is going to happen, given the bad publicity it has generated.  From my working visits it appears that whilst those associated with the 4709 project are still in favour, the wider membership is basically split on the subject with more against than for.

Hopefully, Jon Jones-Pratt will be successful in his bid to rescue it.

Afternoon All,

I too was out and about to see the special train from Birmingham to the Didcot Railway Centre using two Castles double heading.  This was quite a sight and I went to Oxford and Banbury to see the train on its return run back to Birmingham.  South of Oxford, the train was delayed by a P.W. slack so it was really thrashing through Oxford as it made up the lost time.  I captured this on video, along with a spirited departure from Banbury and this now on my YouTube channel.  The footage from Didcot, where the two Castles were lined up with Didcot's own two Castles, will have to wait until I've got more time, but in the meantime, here's the footage from Oxford and Banbury:

It goes to show that enthusiast days at Didcot do work. My man tells me 2000 tickets were sold, plus those coming in on the rail tour.

There is 105 here..

hi Ron,

you got me and my daughter in that (see her pics above), i’m wearing the brown bag, my little ones got the hat with ears !

I think we spoke briefly, as there was a small army up at your position, but migrated to the other end when the 800 popped up to spoil the party but left just in time.
