Question time......... My bay is situated on the upline, I've no idea if that is normal? However, I assume that for the departing train there would be a home signal at the end of the platfrom. Would that be a normal home? Or maybe the bracket home?

I think either sideis acceptable, although in many cases the platform is on the side nearest to a diverging branch line (e.g. Cholsey, Twyford and Maidenhead all have bays on the up side, Slough's is on the down side, because that's the side the branch is). Where there isn't a branch nearby, I suspect it would normally go on the side nearest the station entrance to make it easier for passengers, although that would depend on availability of land.

If the departing train can only go one direction (i.e. up the main line), a single post would be used. if there is more than one possible route, a bracket signal or a single post with a route describer would be used.

Amazing.

So my bay is on the station side, so correct. And there is no branch, so a standard home would be fine.

Already have one home, so 2 more, one for the bay and one for the main down.

I'll booking Warley.. So time to make a shopping list.. 😀

I managed to find a few hours for a couple of little projects over the weekend..

I wanted to start getting some progress around the engine shed started. The base layers are simply foamboard to shape it, glued with a glue gun and then covered with plaster bandage. Quick and easy :) Once the facia is back on the front and painted, I think we can get some grass on..

I've hung the shed doors so they open... Not quite got it right yet, but the idea is there....

I'm just trying to remove as much blank baseboard as I can...

With some renewed Warley enthusiasm.. I ripped up part of the goods yard!

The double slip was an old version,  leading into two insulfrog points,  and honestly,  they were wrecking my enjoyment.

Even though the slip is still insulfrog,  the newer version is much better and you can feed the frog from the motor.

The new trackwork behaved all Christmas and New Year. My nephew ran trains for about 3 days, all day, with very few issues!  So that's a good test...

I did find a little time to do some modelling. Building a small bridge over the river for the farmer and animals. It needs finishing and painting, but we want to work on the river first.

I've also started building the scalescene Castle to sit on the hill. It's a massive build, probably a bit bigger than I expected! Quite hard on my hands and scalpel blades.

I'll cut it into the plaster and with some grass up there, should look quite good.

I'm patiently waiting for my steam railcar... I'm sure she will be here soon. A short milk pauses at the junction, maybe it's waiting for the steam railcar too....

Progress wasn't as much as I'd like. We had a nice trip to the Southampton Model Railway show. Lots to see and a few odds and ends for the layout bought.. More things to paint basically!

Cutting into the plaster was harder than I expected... life would be easy if we planned more.. But boring..

My stock storage had been bothering me a while.. A shelf had started collecting odds and ends as we switched things around. Not ideal for making sure expensive things don't get damaged.

The other challenage was to be able to easily rotate out some of my sons trains to all Great Western. His Mallard and Teak coaches are taking up one fiddle yard road, I found when I wanted to run, I just ignored it, so I was missing one road in the fiddle yard. Much better to swap his coaches out with some more GWR..

I have some of the Warley stock boxes. But, as they are in a stack, you have to put them on the desk etc, it's all just a little bit too much like hard work when you only have 30mins to enjoy the railway..

I started looking at the WWScenic loco boxes when they came out. But then I realised they do a much large ‘coach’ version. Well why can’t I use that for all stock? And, the size looks like it will perfectly slide into the cupboard under my layout.

They took a lot more building than I expected, over 4hrs to build the 2 and the draws. The last draws are waiting for the glue to dry.

But space for locos, as well as coach stock. I just need a little foam to protect them and lables on the front.

My kids were home for the last day of half term, so we finally found time to work on the scenery around the castle.

I’ve salvaged some rocks from my old 009 layout, keen to make use of them, we cleaned the up a little more and, using a glue gun, attached them to the side of the tunnel section. Then we used some poly fibre (I think), not used before, to create some texture to it all. Layering spray and foliage was then built up.

The top section was a base of 2mm grass, then 4mm and 6mm to build up the colours. My son really enjoyed the static grass process, I’d got him to watch a couple of videos first, so he was really excited to do it.
