HHHensen
I have very detailed drawings that I drew about 40 years ago. I want to convert them to 3D CAD. Can I scan them in to a CAD program or "open them with" a CAD program, or is there an OCR program that can convert them to a 2D CAD? ? ? I run on Windows 10. I am also looking with interest at your suggestions for a beginner.

PaulaDoesTrains
I've never heard of a CAD program which can do scanning. Some (many?) can import images so I think your best approach would be to scan your original document(s) and import them into your CAD program then create sketches over the top of the image. .
stevel
What CAD program are you using, in Fusion 360 you import a drawing as a PNG, scale it, and then sketch using it as a template. Here is an example of a wagon in progress.
monkeysarefun
Inkscape has an "Object To PATH" option which converts lines in an imported image to a path. Image can then be deleted and result exported as .dxf for import to other packages. I've used it for simple things like gothic windows, quality of output is dependant on quality of original image. Obviously.
