Dieselbob
Hi does anyone recognise this Loco/Truck, it was donated to my club but does not have a manufacturers name or description. Its H0 gauge and runs ok. cheers Bob
RMweb Premium Jeremy Cumberland Posted August 22, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 22, 2023 (edited) It's a Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad Galloping Goose. The prototype is 3' gauge. If the track gauge is 16.5 mm, then it is probably 0n30 scale (1:48 scale, matching US 0 gauge) and might have been made by Precision Craft Models. 009 micro modeller
Definitely a Galloping Goose, probably 0n30 despite the 3’ prototype gauge, as I doubt that it’s 5.5mm scale or similar. It looks a bit like this particular one could be the prototype, only with the van bit at the back now converted for passenger use: https://www.durangoherald.com/articles/galloping-goose-to-run-winter-excursions-on-durango-silverton-railroad/
Nick Holliday
This might show its original form, in 1939. courtesy Reddit
RMweb Premium Jeremy Cumberland Posted August 22, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 22, 2023 That's a point. The Galloping Geese were products of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad, not the D&RGW, and I don't think the D&RGW ever had any.

I can't remember when, but the RGS re-bodied the Geese with Wayne bus-body components. That original front end is by Pierce-Arrow, ISTR. I have two of the Precision Craft models somewhere. RMweb Premium Nile Posted August 22, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 22, 2023 My guess is this is a Con-Cor HO scale standard gauge model, they did 16.5 and 10.5mm versions in lots of (fictional) liveries.
Nearholmer
I was trying to remember who it was that made it as a plastic model in H0.
2E Sub Shed
Looks like the Con-Cor model, https://www.walthers.com/railbus-quot-the-galloping-goose-quot-powered-ho-standard-gauge-southern-pacific

I did wonder if it was H0 scale with an inaccurate track gauge. It would be useful to see it next to something else like a loco (H0 or 0) to ascertain the scale.
