After that I would add that WCML stock wont get round it except for the odd 2-car dmu.

Agreed short DMUs ran on parts of it (& still do) but it misses the point of a WCML layout.

1990s & 1970s southern WCML was mentioned by the OP, which suggests that the intention is to run AC Electric locos.

The space provided would allow no more than a station throat with a building of some description covering most of the station, like Birmingham New St.

The approach to a tunnel like Kilsby or Shugborough may be an alternative as both are just 2 tracks & it would always be possible to model a junction at the end of a 4 track section under a road bridge.

A full station, TMD or freight yard would just look wrong in that space. If you tried to fit one in, it would drag the layout so far away from what the WCML really looks like that it would be a freelance model. Nothing wrong with that, but it would not be WCML at all.

The part numbers are clearly printed on the plan, not sure any exceptional traits are needed!

If you are watching on a mobile (phone/tablet) you just zoom in anyway.

  • you misunderstood me... the point is that while a dmu might get round the proposed layout, nothing else would

I’m actually just embarking on a layout of a heavily compressed Shugborough in N, and with 9x3 it’s going to have heavily compromised train lengths!

Crewlisle springs to mind as a compressed WCML layout in a similar sort of space.
