RMweb Gold Phil-Essex Posted October 6, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 6, 2023 Currently sat on the 11:03 Kings Cross to Leeds LNER service. We came to a halt about 50 mins ago and then crawled into Hitchin where we are still sat. Driver was apparently filling a form in about a signalling irregularity. We were told the form was done and we were waiting for a green signal. Now the signaller has apparently said the driver has to be replaced by a relief driver. Another service is going to pull alongside us and the driver be transferred. All very odd!
RMweb Gold Phil-Essex Posted October 6, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 6, 2023 The train manager just walked through chatting to a colleague and said “He couldn’t have spadded could he”
RMweb Gold PhilH Posted October 6, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 6, 2023 Good job it’s not a WCR driver, there would have been 40 replies to this already….
Wheatley
The rules on whether the driver can go forward vary depending on the type of incident, the potential culpability of the driver, their post-incident mental state and their level of experience. Some are at a TOC Controller's discretion, some need a driver manager to speak to the driver and make an assessment and some are an absolute "Stay there and don't touch anything". The 'rules' in this case are down to each individual TOC's Safety Management System so they vary a bit between TOCs according to their risk profiles. 'Intercity' TOCs won't need any provision for ab initio drivers on their first unsupervised ride out for example, because they don't have any. RMweb Gold russ p Posted October 6, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 6, 2023 It could have been a signal dropping to red in front of the train and the driver is being relieved as he or she is shaken up
