RMweb Gold papagolfjuliet Posted October 31, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2023 This is fascinating, although it's sad to see the state of the MR signalbox. Does anybody recognise the continental thing near the turntable? 8
Arun Sharma
The centre cab diesel loco by the turntable looks like an ex-DB one. Class V60 possibly? Edited October 31, 2023 by Arun Sharma
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted October 31, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2023 Whole place looks rather "abandoned". Amazing to think that it is nearly 50 years since I last visited it (1974).

I think it might be the loco someone made out of an SD40 bogie, I know it was hosted up north at some point, might still be there. EDIT; its not, the TP70 just has steps after the cab, but I am sure Carnforth did host it at one point. https://www.railwaygazette.com/uk/class-08-locomotive-replacement-concept-unveiled/61795.article Edited October 31, 2023 by woodenhead
Michael Hodgson
I was last there many years ago, and I recall the coaling tower was considered dangerous ("concrete cancer"). I don't imagine there was much that could be done to save it even if funds were available which seemed most unlikely. However I see it is no longer fenced off from the rest of the site. Would that mean it's been reassessed and no longer seen as a safety risk to people nearby? Edited October 31, 2023 by Michael Hodgson typo
stewartingram
Interesting video, though I do wonder about the legality of it? I thought flying drones over railway property was banned.

stewartingram
I'm certain that the reulations covering drone usage ban it, but there are occasions when it has to happen (like NR) where permission can be granted.

Maybe the rest of the site is deemed to be equally dangerous.☹️ 1
