RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 25, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 25, 2022 61210 has come home, and will now go on shed for a rest. There is a relief engine in the bay, Lincoln's 61202, which will go on to Skegness. There will be a trip back to Lincoln from there later in the day. A small boy refused to move, so this is a bit out of focus. Shortly afterwards there was an unexpected development, but you will hear about that when the time comes. 28
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted November 25, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 25, 2022 Being deranged is my coping mechanism for today's chaotic World. I only go on Auction sites to push the price up for the gangs of Traders that obviously buy almost all the stuff and then sell it for an enormous profit on Ebay. The brand new A1 2020 model and a MIB Baccy N, cost less than £70, including fees etc. I reckon that makes my N a freebie according to A1 Great Eastern selling prices AND I got a Chipped Std 5 from Gilbert! Occasionally I obtain something because they, the Traders, went to the toilet or fell asleep or something. Latest bargain was a Replica Exmouth set, never out of Box = around £60; BUT the lot also included 4 Hornby new maroon Mk 1 TOs (Ebay prices around £30 each) and 3 old Replica / Mainline BR Buffet Cars, 2 Mainline Maroon Mk1s (Clive will provbably have those), and 4 Mainline BR Vans that I can adapt easily. OK it's a bit of a Gamble as Gilbert would say, but the Winter Ebay season is here and I want to recoup a good percentage of the spend in the next 6 months. That's my excuse anyway. Awaiting seeing the A1 in a new disguise on PN in the near future. P 14

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 25, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 25, 2022 The Skegness being tucked away gives the Northumbrian an opportunity to overtake, and it has a New England engine as well. A liitle further along, 60514 passes a light engine on the Up main. Class A lights too. What's that doing there? Well, the B1 in the bay suffered a complete failure, and this was the best New England could find at short notice to replace it. It needs to get across to the down side, but will have to wait, as will the passengers on the Skegness. And yes, the B1 was a complete failure, no response to the controller, and the dreaded "cannot read CV" when interrogated. Very strange, as it had worked perfectly well when being put into the bay. 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 26, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 26, 2022 The photographers don't see a New England engine on a named train very often, so this one gets plenty of attention.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 26, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 26, 2022 So the K3 finally got across to back onto its train, but of course still had to acquire sufficient boiler pressure to be able to move a 12 coach train. That was finally achieved, and off it goes, but rather late. It will shortly pass the Yorkcshire Pullman, which a short while later is running through.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 27, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 27, 2022 Our next featured train is the 1215 Skegness-KX, coming through non stop, and with a well kept Top Shed B1 at the head. I suspect this may have been the Butlins Express, but as that title was not recognised in the official documemts, I can't be sure. The yellow headboard was a bit garish anyway. I can't do anything about the bands of sunlight, I'm afraid. The sun is so low now, and it finds the slightest chink in the blinds. As usual the camera can detect them, even if I can't see them.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 27, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 27, 2022 Our man on Spital Bridge also got a shot of the departing K3, but was a bit slow in sending it to me. It was followed by the 1230 Newcastle, but we came down to ground level again for that. And the images get transposed again.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 28, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 28, 2022 A very quick post this morning, as an exciting day lies ahead. Peter Leyland with special goodies! Here is the Up Scarborough Flyer, headboard not far off straight, and regular KX V2 60983.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 28, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 28, 2022 A brief update on Peter Leyland's visit. Despite having been laid low by a horrid winter vomiting bug for some time, he came bearing three of the five buildings on Station Road. I intend to do a feature on each one, showing all sides of each, but for now I just have one image of the three from Crescent Bridge, roughly positioned as they will be. I decided that I wanted a plain white backscene to hide the fiddle yard when taking photos, but needed it to be removeable, so the first part of the day was spent measuring up and fixing double sided velcro to the baseboard. When that had been done I took this photo. Bits of wall just placed for effect. It was a horribly dull day, so the lights were on, and managed to turn the white board to muddy grey. This doesn't begin to do justice to Peter's work, and I shall try to do better when there is some semblance of daylight. Thereafer Peter did plenty more, but that again will wait till there is some light. None of my camera settings gave a satisfactory result today. When set to auto mode, it gives everything a pink tinge! Can anyone think why that might be? 21 1 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 28, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 28, 2022 (edited) Changed my mind, so here are a couple more angles, just about presentable, but not worth spending time photoshopping. And one I did not intend to post, but the bl**dy PC has decided otherwise. Edited November 28, 2022 by great northern see text 38 3
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 28, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 28, 2022 Nearly forgot your evening train. 60983 again, with an even more threatening sky, and a headboard a bit more askew.

Later I will try to get some more shots of yesterday's progress, though there seems to be no real daylight forecast for the next week, at least.

FarrMan
I like the new buildings in Station Road, but have no memory of them at all. Whenever I was walking along that section, i must have been looking the other way for some reason, if only in hope! Lloyd

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 29, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 29, 2022 I had an idea.It happens now and then. What if I draw the blinds right back, and let in what little natural light there is, I thought? Camera on cloudy setting, and see what happens. Well, four to six seconds exposure needed, but I got some shots without putting the overheads on, and I think they are much better. The view towards the forecourt. Weathering of footpath and a lot else to be done, but it looks very promising. This side of the bridge extension got its first coat of paint Looking the other way, which will be much better when the final two buildings arrive. Peter told me that this had been bugging him for ages, so he had some laser cut girders made, and in they went. Unfinished of course,, but you get the idea, and the bridge shouldn't fall down now. More to come. 26 6
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted November 29, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) A few more. Another go at the shot from the bridge. A lot to be done to get things to like right from this angle. Looks better from a lower position. The strange thing is that the buildings look too close together, but they are not. Side on things look better. But it then occurred to me that I could have got those vans out of the way. and I was right, so I even did some quick photoshopping. Next, a look along the bridge. I suspect a visitor from a deep dark place may have been resurrecting discarded figures again. and just one more for now. the bridge extension does work, and from this point on starts to lose height and curve away, so it would be far less visible anyway. All in all, a lot of excellent progress. I shall now reward myself by purchasing a Sicilian lemon tart from posh Waitrose.
